Pensacola Junior College (usually shortened to PJC) is a community college in Pensacola, Florida. The college's slogan is "You can get there from here." In 2008, PJC will celebrate its 60th Anniversary. The current President is Dr. Charles E. Meadows.
The main campus, located in Pensacola, was opened in 1948 and was the first institute of higher learning in the town (UWF would not open to a full class of undergraduates until 1983). PJC quickly expanded to include a downtown campus in 1957, and a Milton campus in 1971. A mini-campus opened on Naval Air Station Pensacola in 1981. A final branch in Warrington rounded out the five-location junior college system.
PJC is widely recognized as a premiere two-year college that competes with the best – offering more than 100 majors and areas of concentration, along with the latest high-tech resources and exciting opportunities. Harvard professors held a three-day workshop at the Mary Ekdahl Smart Center for Patient Simulation Training & Research on the Warrington campus. This was the first time Harvard held such a seminar at a community college.
The College offers associates degrees as well as vocational certifications and an adult high school. In the 2007/2008 academic year over 34,000 new students enrolled of which about 11,000 are seeking an associates degree. As with all Florida Community Colleges, PJC's associate in arts degrees guarantee acceptance to a State University System of Florida institution. It works closely together with the University of West Florida and has a joint campus with the University of Florida in Milton. Job placement is 100 percent in most technical areas for PJC students earning certificates, A.S. and A.A.S. degrees.
PJC operates WSRE, the main PBS station in Pensacola.
