Baker College - Flint School Description

Welcome to Baker College, the largest independent college in the state of Michigan with the most focused approach to education and training available. We believe that going to college should lead you directly to a great career. And that's exactly where we come in. Unlike other colleges and universities, Baker is a career college, with one mission: to provide you job specific training so you can enter a more personally rewarding career right out of college. You will become a working professional in a successful career, not a career student.

The mission of Baker College is to provide quality higher education and training which enable graduates to be successful throughout challenging and rewarding careers.

Founded in 1911, Baker College has brought the joy of career fulfillment to hundreds of thousands of graduates through the years. Whether on one of our 9 campuses, 6 branch locations, or online worldwide, all of our students want to improve their career situation. With Baker in their corner, they do— 98% of our available graduates are currently employed.

Unlike "traditional" colleges and universities, the employment of our graduates is our sole focus. In fact, 98% of our graduates are employed. As a result, every Baker College action - from curriculum design, to student service offerings, to management decisions - is planned with the needs of only two groups in mind: our students and the employers who hire them.

In order to achieve this goal, Baker believes it must act like a business. To meet the needs of our two customer groups, we are constantly developing new educational programs and innovative delivery methods. Baker College now offers classes at every degree level in traditional classroom settings, via a network of video-based distance delivery facilities, and through the Internet. Every year, in the course of what we consider "normal business," we work a little harder to prepare our students for successful careers by introducing new programs, opening new campuses, constructing new facilities, and embracing innovative technology that has allowed us to deliver our curriculum across the country and around the world.

Our growing numbers prove that more and more students are turning to "career colleges" as their choice for a college education, while our near-perfect employment rates underscore the business community's support of our efforts. In truth, the sheer number of "traditional" colleges racing to embrace Baker's philosophy of education stands as a testament to our ability to deliver an educational product that works.

Like any good business, however, we don't plan to let our momentum slow. The coming years promise more innovation in the delivery of our classes and programs, further expansion of our facilities and campuses, and a continued focus on our online programs.

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Baker College is a private not-for-profit American college in Michigan, founded in 1911. Its campuses are located throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.

Baker is a career college, featuring more than 140 career programs within its system (though not all programs are available through all campuses). Baker offers certifications, Associate, Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree programs in business, nursing, education, interior design, architecture, automotive service technology, and computer and internet technologies. It maintains a "right to try" admissions policy, and couples that policy with an extensive financial aid office to allow for a very broad base of traditional and nontraditional students.

History

Within a few years on either side of the turn of the twentieth century, two proprietary institutions of higher education were founded. Though completely independent of each other, both shared a common mission-to provide students with the skills needed for employment in the great industries of their times. In 1965, after half a century of separate but parallel existence, the two institutions came together under a single management group headed by Robert Jewell of Muskegon.

The college has flourished in the years following that initial union. Now known as the Baker College System, it is the largest independent college in Michigan, with over 35,000 students in more than 140 programs on 12 campuses and five branch locations. 1 Throughout years of tremendous growth and success, Baker College has maintained its original mission: to provide quality higher education and training which enables graduates to be successful throughout challenging and rewarding careers.

Following are some highlights in the history of the Baker College System:

1888 - Inspired by a "boom" in lumbering and Great Lakes shipping, entrepreneur Woodbridge Ferris founded Muskegon College.

1911 - In a similar venture, motivated by the growth of the great automotive factories in Flint, Eldon E. Baker founded Baker Business University.

Question: Are credits from Baker College transferable to universities?

I am currently attending Baker College of Owosso, and I was wondering if the credits I am earning now can be transfered to larger universities like Michigan University, Michigan State, or even Texas Tech I am enrolled in a computer sciences degree
18 months ago

Best Answer

The transfer of credit is entirely up to the receiving school and there are no universal rules. Each college may accept or decline any credit that they want to. Some colleges accept no transfer credit at all (Princeton) and some will accept 100% of the degree in transfer (Excelsior, Thomas Edison, Charter Oak) -- most are in between. Generally, as long as the credit is from a regionally accredited college (Baker College (http://www.baker.edu) is regionally accredited by the North Central Association) and applies to the degree you want to get, the credit will transfer. The only way to know for sure is to send the transcript from Baker to the registrar of the colleges that you want to attend and ask.

Most employers in medicine are not realy worried about how you got the education, they just pay attention to your GPA. That says how well you did.

Question: Is a Bachelors Degree from Baker College as good as a degree from a university?

I want to go to baker but i dont know if it could be compared badly to a university degree.

Baker is an independent, non-profit school with both campus and online degree programs. Baker has been in operation in some form or another for over 100 years. While it won't be on the same level as most big state universities, like University of Florida. It will be considered on the same level as a small to medium state university and better than some other online schools. In other words, there are definitely worse options than Baker. Good luck,
