Overall

I loved Penn State. I attended the honors college and I lived in Atherton Hall (honors dorm). It was nice because we had small classes and priority scheduling, which was helpful in an otherwise large student body. But it was a beautiful campus and location, with plenty to do even though it isn't in a big city.

Academics

The diversity of classes available at Penn State is terrific. Lecture classes can be big, but you make of them what you will. If you can get into the honors program the honors classes were usually very small and taught by professors, not grad students. Work load was what you made of it too.

College Life

There are tons of clubs - every type imaginable - plenty of things to get involved with for those who are interested. This comes from the sheer size of the university and the diverse student body of more than 30,000. It really does accommodate just about any interest.

Overall

Penn State is an amazing school! It has great academics, exciting athletics, and one of the best social scenes in the country. Some of my most memorable experiences include football games with over 100,000 people alongside of me in the stadium and THON - the largest student run philanthropy in the nation to benefit the Four Diamonds fund and pediatric cancer research.

Academics

Class size varies depending on the class/major/section you are in. I was in classes anywhere from 800 people (freshman year Physiology) to 12 people (400-level class in Kinesiology). Although Penn State is a pretty huge school, you aren't just a number (if you don't want to be). All it takes is a simple introduction and a handshake for a professor to know who you are.

College Life

The athletics at Penn State are some of the best in the country and school pride could seriously be the best in the world. Greek life is also big at Penn State, but it is certainly not the only form of socialization on campus. There is basically a club or organization for everything and everyone.

Overall

Great blend of a big school in a small town. Penn State has one of the largest alumni associations for a reason - it's a great place to go to school and a great place to visit post-graduation. There are multiple events throughout the year (Arts Feastival, Football Games, Regatta, Dance Marathon) that draw alumni "home" on a consistant basis. This would not likely be the case if the undergraduate and graduate experience were not so positive.

Academics

High caliber staff, challenging curriculum. As an individual progresses though their curriculum the class size reduces substantailly in most cases; to the point that the Professor/Student ratio is more reflective of a much smaller institution, but with the resources of a world-class University

College Life

There is no shortage of activities, both academic and social avialable throughout the year. Speakers series, music, dance, theater, charity, school spirit and a myriad of sporting events are some of the opportunities that await when there is time to spend outside of lecture and study activities.

Overall

Penn State is a wonderful school. The campus is beautiful and growing on what seems an almost daily basis. Although the campus is large, traveling around is easy using the "Loop," which runs a, well, loop through campus and gets you to class on time. Classes range from really big to relatively small. The years you spend at Penn State will be some of the best of your life.

Academics

Classes at Penn State can be quite large, some of them are held in the auditorium on campus, so it's important to be able to put an extra effort forth. Once you get into your major studies, the classes are smaller and much more personalized. I had one professor who gave us the choice to not see our grades, because we wanted to learn just to learn, not to earn a grade.

College Life

There is so much to do at Penn State it may be overwhelming. People are friendly and social. Football obviously has a huge focus within the student body. School pride is evident everywhere. There are music festivals, art, theater, dining in State College is diverse and can be diner food or five star dining, or anything in between. The Waffle House is a must for Sunday morning breakfast. Always make your parents take you to the Corner Room or the Tavern for a good dinner.

Overall

It is one of the top schools academically and sports-wise. It is very costly, but very worth it. It has a really great campus. It's a really big party school, so try not to let it suck you in, because you really need to keep your G.P.A up.

Academics

It's a top academic school. It has great classes and teachers. Although, a con is it's a very large school so some of the classes fill up quickly. Just make sure to sign up for classes early and you will be fine. Also, there are a few lecture classes, so if you don't like those then you might want to steer in a different direction.

College Life

It has a very nice atmosphere. It has lots of great clubs and organizations. There is something for almost any sport or activity you can think of. It has one of the top athletic programs. It's a very big party school, so try to stay focased on the classes for the most part. Also, it is known for it's great Greek system.
