University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (UMES)
J.T. Williams Hall, Princess Anne, MD 21853
UMES Description
A school that is dedicated to helping first-generation college students succeed; that’s University of Maryland in Eastern Shore.
How do they do it? Primarily through focused academics and campus life activities. Geared towards creating sharp and savvy scholars and leaders, Eastern Shore grants professional and academic degrees in challenging fields. Included among these are degrees in Modern Languages, Social Sciences, Physical Therapy, Physician Assisting, Business, Engineering, Aviation Sciences and Ecology.
Research, which is conducted in everything from Coastal Ecology to Education, is also a significant part of an Eastern Shore education.
While enjoyable, student life activities at Eastern Shore are also rigorous. Organizations, which include Students in Free Enterprise, Student Government, a student radio station, a Pre-Law society, The Gospel Choir, a National Association of Black Accountants and Habitat for Humanity, help students to strengthen leadership, academic and professional skills.
The admissions department assesses prospective undergraduates based on academic performance, test scores and recommendation letters. The admission requirements differ for individual graduate programs.
Financial aid is awarded through different sources to those who qualify.
