Question: Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising vs Academy of Art University?Which is better? FIDM or AAU? I was leaning toward FIDM but I've heard that they arent that great. I want to know which one's better for fashion design. Post your opinions! THANKS!14 months ago
Best AnswerActually FIDM is a great school. The drawing instructor Nancy Reiglman who teaches the fashion drawing for the fashion design major at the LA campus is absolutely AMAZING! Many successful graduates have made an impact-two students started juicy couture, monique lhuillier the famous wedding dress designer, nick verreos and leanne marshall were on project runway, and many other well known designers. Whats really great about the school is that to be an instructor they need to have worked in the industry for 7 years and to continue working in it while they teach. They also have 90% career placement, and career counsilors to help you for the rest of your life. I know AAU is a really good school but I dont know how there fashion design program is. Some other good school for fashion design is the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, and the Pratt Institute. Best of Luck!! |

Question: How long has FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) been around? When did it first start up?32 months ago
Best AnswerHi! Unlike what others may think, FIDM is a great place to pursue a career in fashion, entertainment and interior design! So you want to know a little bit of history about this great college? FIDM was started 30 years ago by one woman's vision: FIDM President and Founder Toni Hohberg saw a vision for a college that encompassed fashion, entertainment and interior design. She created a vibrant environment where students are encouraged to "think outside the box" and pursue their dreams. Because of her vision, 6,000 full-time students attend FIDM with more than 500 faculty members paving the way to success. If you'd like additional information about FIDM, feel free to go onto their web site at: www.fidm.com Hope this helps :) |
Question: Does anyone know about Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising?I'm thinking of going to FIDM for college, but I need more opinions... Has anyone seen it? Heard about it? Gone to/ are going to it? I would visit, but I'm all the way across the country...I'm on the edge of going because you only get an assosiates degree, not a bachelor's degree. On the website it seems like they put a lot of emphasis on starting you with your fashion career-->does it actually open a lot of doors in the fashion industry if you go to FIDM??? Please answer my question(s)...thanks!!35 months ago
Best Answer"...does it actually open a lot of doors in the fashion industry if you go to FIDM?" No, actually, it doesn't. FIDM isn't the strongest fashion college out there, and it doesn't have the best rep in the industry. Its name on your resume will not help you get that first job. If you are serious about this industry, look into the Fashion Institute of Technology, and also at Parsons, both in NYC. Not only are these the two top fashion programs in the US, but they are smack-dab in the middle of NYC, which is the fashion capital of the US, of N. America, and in some areas of the field, even of the world. These programs have produced some high powered graduates. The program at RISD is also very strong. In general, you'll do better getting that first job if you graduate with your bachelor's rather than an associates. But FIT offers a very strong and respected associates program, which, if that's your interest, may be a real option. While you're in school, no matter what school you go to, make sure you do internships and co-ops in the industry. This will make you employable upon graduation. |
