Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, maintains eight public four-year colleges and universities, six regional universities, sixteen public two-year colleges, and various privately owned and licensed proprietary schools. The state’s public institutions are governed by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Kentucky hosts 34 accredited institutions and notable universities, including the two major research institutions, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville, and the first coeducational college in the South to admit both black and white students, Berea College.

US News & World Report list of America’s Best Colleges has ranked University of Kentucky on their list of Top Schools.
