Columbia is the capital of South Carolina and is located in the center of the state. Known as Cola or “Soda City” to many, it sits where the Saluda River and the Broad River join to form the Congaree River.

It’s also home to the main campus of the University of South Carolina as well as the largest Army base in the country, Fort Jackson. In addition to the government and military jobs, tech and manufacturing are big parts of the local economy.

Every Saturday, students and other residents converge on Main Street for the Soda City Market, a farmer’s market that “produces” $5 million in sales annually.
