Austin Area Colleges

About the Austin Area

The Austin area, founded on a bend in the Colorado River in 1839, took shape largely due to the University of Texas, which began as a center of education in 1883. The Austin area is renowned for being politically progressive and for its vibrant music and arts scene. Additionally, the area offers a buzzing restaurant and entertainment scene. Fun attractions in the Austin area include Texas' oldest man-made pool, the Deep Eddy, the Blanton Museum of Art and the interactive Bob Bullet Texas State History Museum.
