Houston Area Colleges

In the Houston Area you’ll find specialized learning institutions, research universities, law schools and community colleges. Notable public schools in the Houston area include the Sam Houston State University, University of Houston and, the historically Black, Texas Southern University. There’s also the prestigious Rice University called “a hidden Ivy.” Finally, there are reputable community colleges such as San Jacinto College, Blinn and the Houston Community College System, which operates community colleges in Houston, Missouri City and Stafford.

About the Houston Area

In the late 1950s President Lyndon Johnson, a bona fide Texan, located the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the Houston area, making the region home to the Space Center and a hub of aerodynamic science. The Houston area boasts ethnic restaurants, eclectic shopping and over 337 parks including Hermann Park, which is home to the Houston Zoo and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. There are also annual rodeos in several of the area’s cities and picturesque historic ranches open to the public. If you choose to go to school in the Houston area, you’ll have plenty of green places to roam and urban activities to enjoy in your free time.
