Washington, the Evergreen State, hosts six public four-year colleges and universities, 34 public community and technical colleges, and more than 300 independent colleges, universities, and career schools. The Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board provides strategic planning, coordination, monitoring, and policy analysis for higher education in Washington. Washington offers associate, bachelors, and graduate programs offered at 25 accredited institutions in addition to a variety of subject focused national and international accreditation agencies. Among residents of the state, Washington ranks 11th nationwide in the number of state residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Washington State College and the University of Washington are ranked by a nationally recognized college review as among the Best Western Colleges and Best Value Colleges. US News & World Report list of America’s Best Colleges has ranked University of Washington and Washington State University on their list of Top Schools.
