Acoustics is the scientific study of sound. A four year program in acoustics studies the behavior of acoustic waves under a variety of conditions. Students of acoustics will study wave theory, the acoustic wave equation, energy transformation, vibration phenomena, sound reflection and transmission, scattering and surface wave phenomena, singularity expansion theory, and ducting. Students will study the application of theory to specific research problems such as underwater acoustics, crystallography, and health diagnostics.
