Michigan Scholarships

Michigan is home to some of the most beautiful natural attractions in the country, including Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Pere Marquette River and of course, the Great Lakes. The Wolverine State also has plenty to offer the urban-minded student, boasting historically and culturally rich cities like Detroit, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids.

One of Michigan’s most important assets is its education. In addition to premier research universities like the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University, Michigan features small, prestigious liberal arts colleges like Kalamazoo College.

Though tuition at many of these schools is not cheap, plenty of scholarships are available to help Michigan students fund their education.

Popular Michigan Scholarships

If you’re trying to find scholarships in Michigan, a great place to look is the state itself. While budget constraints have forced Michigan to cut back on financial aid programs, several scholarships and grants are still available, including the Michigan Competitive Scholarship and [/scholarships/42BA09C1/michigan-educational-opportunity-grant/ Michigan Educational Opportunity Grant.

Institutional scholarships are another great source of financial aid in Michigan. Most colleges and universities offer merit scholarships, such as Central Michigan University’s Merit Award.

Applying for Michigan Scholarships

Some Michigan institutional scholarships, especially those based on merit, automatically consider all applicants to the college. However, those with unique selection criteria will likely require a separate application.

Minorities and underrepresented groups will find many scholarship opportunities in Michigan. For example, Western Michigan University’s First Step Scholars Program is designed for undocumented residents or the children of undocumented residents.
