Types of Nursing Scholarships

Since nurses are so valuable and are often in high demand, there are a number of scholarships available specifically to nurses. That includes both institutional scholarships as well as non-school-specific scholarships.

For those pursuing research or a graduate degree in nursing, there are also a number of nursing fellowships and grants available.

Popular Nursing Scholarships

A number of nursing grants for graduate students come from the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, often offering between $2,500 and $5,000 for research projects.

Nursing scholarships are often school-specific or offered to residents of a particular state or county. Some nationwide scholarships are also available, such as the Eight and Forty Lung and Respiratory Nursing Scholarship, which awards $2,500 to RNs with a focus in lung and respiratory illness.

Schools that offer numerous nursing scholarships include Clemson University, Mesa State College and University of Toledo.

Applying for Nursing Scholarships

Many nursing scholarships will require that applicants reside in a particular area, attend a particular school, or have a focus in a particular area of nursing. A minimum GPA may be required, but often not above a 3.0. Applications and other criteria may also apply.
