Types of Psychology Scholarships

Despite the popularity of the major, financial aid awards specific to psych majors are not as numerous as, say, biology or engineering. However, since psychology is a research-heavy field, there are a number of fellowships available.

Psychology majors will also find a handful of school-specific scholarships out there, so attendance at a certain school may be necessary.

Popular Scholarships for Psychology Majors

Some of the scholarships that psych majors can apply for that award the highest amount might not be specific to psychology at all. For example, the AFSCME/UNCF Union Scholars Program awards up to $5,000 to students who are enrolled in a four-year college in any major.

However, specific psychology scholarships and awards are available as well. The Dissertation Research Fellowship Award, for example, provides up to $15,000 to students conducting research on schizophrenia.

Applying for Psychology Scholarships

Many psychology scholarships will require a minimum GPA, but few if any will require SAT scores. Non-school-specific awards may require an application describing research or intent to study a specific field of psychology.
