Utah Scholarships

There’s no doubt that Utah is for nature lovers. Most of the state is unpopulated, leaving vast expanses of wilderness to explore. Or, if you’re looking for a more tame outdoor adventure, try visiting one of the state’s many national parks and forests.

Where there are people in Utah, however, there are also several opportunities for higher education. The state offers an array of colleges and universities, including research universities, technical colleges and high-profile private institutions like Brigham Young University.

With so many options available, the question remains: how are you going to pay for tuition? Utah scholarships are the answer. Utah features numerous financial aid programs to help pay your way to higher learning.

Popular Utah Scholarships

Each year, more than 1,000 high school juniors apply for the Energy Solutions Foundation Scholarship. Westminster University, Brigham Young University and the University of Utah administer this new scholarship program, which is designed for math majors, science majors and engineering majors.

The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority funds many popular grant programs for Utah students. These include the Utah Centennial Opportunity Program for Education (UCOPE) and the Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP), both of which are based on financial need.

Institutional aid is the most abundant source of Utah scholarships. The University of Utah sponsors several, including the Resident Transfer Leadership Scholarship, for Utah residents who transferred to the university from a two-year school.

Applying for Utah Scholarships

When applying for Utah scholarships, make sure that you review the application requirements. Some awards have specific selection criteria that favor students with a particular background or professional interest.

For example, the Susan Ekdale Memorial Scholarship narrows its applicant field to females who are geoscience majors.

Other Utah scholarships tack onto other awards and do not require a separate application. The University of Utah’s Merit Scholarship with Presidential Honors goes to students who qualify for the Merit Scholarship and Presidential Scholarship.
