Reviews for DePaul University
I transferred to DePaul from University of South Carolina. I'm from Michigan. I love DePaul because I feel like I have the best of both worlds - I enjoy the wonderful city of Chicago, while still reap the benefits of a tightly knit, intimate community of students. Living in Chicago opens a world of opportunity and experience, and DePaul faculty support your growth as a student and young adult.
DePaul classes are no larger than 45 students at. The professors I've had usually work in the field they are teaching about. They seem to really care about the success of their students, making the coursework relevant, and incorporating real world lessons into the classroom. The workload is manageable. The professors are lenient. A lof of DePaul students are working full time while going to school, so professors will be flexible if you show you are serious about learning.
As a transfer student, I haven't had the traditional amount of exposure to clubs and activities as other students may have had. However, I've felt totally welcomed to campus. DePaul has a great transfer student union, as well as an awesome tech savvy system for learning about student organizations and events. Campus Safety is awesome. There's cars that you can call and have escort you to your house. There's also blue lights everywhere.
DePaul is a great school and Chicago is an amazing city. Together, they make for a fabulous college experience. My classes have been interesting and the extracurriculars are super fun. I have learned alot about academic subjects, life, and myself.
Professors have been challenging, but very supportive. They want students to learn and understand. They are willing to talk with students about the class, but also about their interests and concerns., They are happy to help you make the most of your opportunities.
There is always something to do at DePaul, and there are always fun people to do them with. DePaul is surrounded by one of the most exciting cities in the US. The students have the opportunity to enjoy much of what Chicago has to offer at a great student discount.
I really enjoyed my time at DePaul. Most memorable, was going to the Winter Leadership Conference this past January. As a commuter, it was ane excellent way to meet people and be more involved. Everyone is very passionate about serving the community and it is very inspiring. I would reccomend it to anyone who comes here.
The Honors Program is excellent. The teachers are of high caliber and there is no busy work. Discussions are thought-provoking because the class size is limited to 22 students. The regular classes are interesting, but not as intense and often have larger caps. The work load isn't terrible though, I'm not overwhelmed taking classes only twice a week getting work done in between.
People are very friendly here. There really aren't too many cliques, which I think is one of the benefits of a larger school. There's a ton of clubs on campus and if there isn't anything you're interested in, its easy to form a club with a few like-minded people. The administration is very supportive of student groups as well. In addition, all sporting events are free for students, thought there is not a huge sports culture here.
