Overall

I think UMKC is a great school. I am a current MBA student and so far the courses I have taken are very informative. I would like the career placement area to improve. They have one but it is limited.

Academics

For me the MBA program is easy so far. I would like to be challenged more because this is information I need to know in the workplace in order to succeed. Possibly dishing out more homework would help

College Life

The campus atmosphere is limited. The majority of people live off campus so while there are people on campus the involvement pales in comparison to a larger school such as the University of Missouri.

Overall

I came from a large public university so adjusting to a mid-sized commuter campus like UMKC was a little difficult for me. Overall, the best part is the academics and the worst is its social atmosphere.

Academics

The academics at UMKC are as good as you will find at any public university, if not superior, and its smaller size allows for easier access to professors if you need help in a class or as faculty mentors. I would recommend finding at least 1-2 faculty members (preferably 3, if you're planning on going to graduate school) that you connect with and have something to offer you in the way of advice or support. They can help you with any problems you may be having at school and provide letters of recommendation or a job reference for you later on.

College Life

The school I came from was very community-oriented, so I found UMKC's commuter-campus lifestyle wanting. Greek life is almost nonexistent, there is hardly any support or even promotion for its sports teams, and I found it difficult to make any friends in my classes that outlasted the semester.

Overall

UMKC was mostly a commuter school. While close to The Plaza, much of the area was not conducive to student activities. Some notable speakers came, First Lady of the United States, but these were not as often as at other universities and the locations for the presentations often were lacking. Most of the faculty and staff were helpful to students and the athletic department seemed to focus on the student portion of student-athletes during my time there.

Academics

Classes were relatively challenging, which is positive. Professors and instructors challenged your thoughts and tried (for the most part) to present all sides of a learning environment. Buildings were being redone at the time and those classrooms that were finished were very well modernized. This seemed to help the environment and enjoyment of classes.

College Life

UMKC was primarily a commuter campus which left little in the way of activities. Safety was a concern but fairly well handled by campus and KCMO police departments. The athletic department has small teams and the most visible was the basketball team. They were not very good and played in downtown Kansas City which, I think, limited much student involvement.

Overall

UMKC is located near mid-town Kansas City, MO. This is a great area. UMKC is a commuter college with a great medical school, and law school program. There are not many dorms on campus but plenty of off compus housing. Class sizes are average, not too big and not too small. There are plenty of clubs and programs for student life.

Academics

UMKC is known for the medical school and law school programs but also offers general studies, engineering, natural sciences, and liberal arts programs to name a few. Class sizes are not to big and not to small. UMKC has a growing athletics department and if you are an athlete a great school to play for. Class difficulty, class size, workload, and quality of professors all rate high in terms of quality.

College Life

UMKC has a thriving greek like. Being located in the heart of Mid-Town you have access to the Plaze, westport, and brookside. All great locations to hang out, eat, study, and make friends. The athletics department is growing and if you play sports all the athletes tend to hang out together and support each other. I very much enjoyed my time at UMKC.
