I have only attended Miracosta College for one year. I like the school because it is very close to my house and job. Miracosta College offer great assistance with issues students have. They also have tutoring, couseling, health services available to all students. I enjoy attending Miracosta College because I feel that is easy for me to attend there.

Academics

I mostly take online classes becuase I am a single parent and work fulltime. The online classes are great. I feel that they are sometimes easier than attending the campus. The professors are awesome, they work with students to help them pass classes and some are available after hours and make arrangements with students.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere is mellow. Mostly all the students keep to them selves. Parking is a bit overcrowded, I feel that they should build something bigger for the students and staff. Most of the time I walk to school or park across the campus because parking can be a hastle. The library is available for students with great hours. Students can request to meet with a tutor and there are assistants that come around and help students with printing, researching and any other issues.

After graduating high school at sixteen, I needed direction and focus. MiraCosta College gave me just that. After meeting with the witty and knowledgeable transfer counselor, Lise Flocken, I had every tool to succeed. She helped me plan my education goals I quickly enrolled into the Honors Scholar Program where I met friends that only heightened my love for the school. When I was looking for an internship, the career services helped me form my resume and cover letters. I love the coastal vibe at MiraCosta! Everyone is respectful, kind, and ready to laugh. To future MiraCostians, create a goal, focus, and stick with it. You will succeed whether you are entering at 16 or 28. With the tools that MiraCosta College offers, and your perseverance to succeed, you will achieve wonders.

Academics

Classes at MiraCosta are reasonable and the professors care. My anthropology professor, Lynne Miller, infused her passion in anthropology with her courses, creating an intellectual environment where every student thrived. However, since it was an honors course, the workload was heavy, with long essays due every couple of weeks on top of other homework. I also really enjoyed my non-honors courses, yes, even Calculus 2! When I originally signed up for Calculus 2, I thought I signed myself up for a death sentence, but with the help of Victoria Noddings, the difficult subject became manageable and interesting. If you told me 5 months ago that I would think Calculus to be interesting, I wouldn't beleive you, but with the right teacher, a stressful subject can became the highlight of the week. With classrooms relatively small, just under 35 students are enrolled in each class. To get good grades and results, students must work hard and pursue. I spent every day at school in the school sponsored math lab, where tutors come rushing to help with any mathematical question. To reinstate, the resources given at MiraCosta make it almost impossible not to succeed.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Between the two campuses, San Elijo always has parking spots, but finding parking at Oceanside takes patience and habitual meditation practices. To park on campus, you must pay for a parking permit or you will get ticketed. The campus police are constantly patrolling the parking lots and grounds, whether you have class at 7 am or 10 pm. As an 18 year old girl, I feel safe walking to the car, since my other classmates park relatively close to each other. Getting around campus is pretty easy, with the super friendly staff work at the information desks. Even if you happen to walk into the right building, anyone is willing to help you find where you are going. At both campuses, there are open computer labs for everyone, with no login required. Both campuses have a chill vibe, since many students are surfers and the beach is two miles away from each campus. Whether you need help with your resume, career path, or tutoring, MiraCosta offers free services and caters totally to its students and staff. I love MiraCosta College and it has definitely helped me find the path I want to be on.

MiraCosta college provides the guidance and education I aspire to attain in order to transfer to a four year college. Being a new student and resident to Southern California and not knowing where to begin my college education made me feel very uneasy. When I first walked into take my placement exams for math and English I felt very welcomed by the staff. There was one particular woman who was very helpful in showing me how to get around campus and suggested scheduling an appointment with a school counselor.

Academics

I would recommend taking a counseling class to new students attending MiraCosta. This class taught me many skills such as goal setting and time management. The professor and counselors are very attentive to their students needs and encourage everyone to ask for assistance at any time. In regards to my other classes, I enjoyed my professors and the workload wasn't overbearing. I was able to get most of my homework done in a timely manner without stressing too much.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus has an inviting atmosphere. It is kept very clean and located in a safe neighborhood. I spend most of my time in the computer lab and math tutti ring center, which are both open late when school is in session. The school also provides free workshops and tutoring assistance for all the students. It is a safe campus, they are quick to notify both staff and students regarding any warnings or safety issues they should be aware of.

I like this school, One memory that I have Is that they our supportive and very warm and friendly coaches. And when I join the japanese club, even thoug at the time I was not currently enrolled in japanese 101 , they were kind enough to make me a part of there japanese club. When I joined the team of basketball , the coaches , very very supportive and understanding , of my schedule and if I had to miss a practice they undertood it was not because I wanted to , it was because I had to work , and I don not have a car to go fast enough.

Academics

I like it , but when is about math I hope there were more hours with the instructor , so he could explained more though, But there is help from the math center. So they helped me out, and cleat my doubts , and they helped me out when I get tuck in a math problem. They are very patientce , when it comes to explaining and you have confidence with them . they have good books in the math center , But I wished I had more quizes in math so my excersises And my knowledge would be fresh. And always there , by the simple fact that we would always been practicing our math exercises.

Campus Facilities & Safety

I love the campus it is very sharp and neat , for a community college I wish there was a swimming pool though , so it could have more diversity in sports. Safety even though you don't see that the school has gates, there is always the community police. I have heard that there was an incident with a girl , that had a problem with a guy harousing her. But in my opinion I had not suffer any type of incidents.

Overall, from the campus to the resources provided, MiraCosta is an exceptional school. What I like most about my school is the supportive and friendly environment and the availability of online classes.Online classes have made my college expereince more relaxed and stress free, giving me due dates and scheduled assignments to keep my academic life more organized. Everyone that I've met so far, including professors, counselors and classmates, has been accepting, supportive and motivational. I've made many connections with many of my fellow students on campus, which has helped me form study groups and support groups. A memorable experience would be getting to know my classmates in my Spanish 101 class during the Fall 2012 semester. That's when I formed a solid group to study the course and prepare for tests in a supportive environment. Some tips I have for prospective students is first becoming organized by keeping a planner and second, working with a counselor to take the right classes and lead you in the right direction.

Academics

MiraCosta has a wide variety of classes and programs, from computer skills classes to a class focused on animal diversity. It also provides online, fast-track, hybrid and late-start classes. In-class required classes range from one to four days a week. The professors, from my own experience, are very motivational and want success for every student then have the opportunity to teach. The workload isn't that extreme, you just have to stay organized and want to do the work and class sizes range from twelve to thirty-two students.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere is again, very supportive and friendly. Because it's such a small campus, the students and professors are able to communicate easily. Facilities provided include the Career Center, Health Center, Counseling Office, Bookstore, Transfer Center, Gym, Cafeteria, Computer Lab, Library, Tutoring Center, Recording Rooms, and Practice Rooms. The computer labs include free access to the internet with an unlimited time limit for use. There are many organizations involved with MiraCosta, which include H.O.P.E., Secular Student Alliance, and The Chariot. Parking is a bit of an issue though, because of the amount of students and lack of parking spaces. But, MiraCosta is working to provide more parking. the amount of security is very high, for the campus is extremely safe.

Overall

I transfered from Santa Monica College to MiraCosta College in August 2012 to finish my general education courses. The reason I transferred was because Santa Monica College was so impacted I was unable to get any of the core classes I needed to complete my IGETC. Once I transferred to MiraCosta college I was able to enroll in all the classes that needed and at the time that I wanted. I would have to say that this is one of the greatest aspects of this school. People at MiraCosta College underestimate just how difficult it is to get classes at other local community colleges so I want to encourage prospective students to take advantage of this opportunity. Don't be lazy about enrolling in classes! Sign up as soon as you can and you will be able to tailor your schedule the way you want it which is quite a luxury most other students don't have.

Academics

MiraCosta College is a community college that offers a variety of programs. They have several different health programs that you may get a certificate or AA degree in as well as some other programs that I am not too aware about. I used ratemyprofessor to research all of my teachers and so far I have nothing but great things to see about my professors thus far. There will always be people who bash professors because they didn't pass them but in my experience, the toughest teachers and the best ones! I am preparing for pre-med so my workload is much more than others so to answer what the "workload" is like for the whole school, I have no idea. None of my classes exceed 40 students and I am currently in Anatomy with several people who have already received a bachelors degree and they say you get way more "bang for your buck" in community college.

Campus Facilities & Safety

There are two campuses, the main campus in Oceanside and a satellite campus (where I spend most of my time) in Cardiff, California. There is a great feel to the school! There are people from all ages and walks of life there are also people of all different styles/ethnicities. I feel very comfortable at this school and for the most part, safe. I have never been to school and not seen a campus police. They have a variety of different organizations too. I would suggest checking out the club list you wont be able to pass up some of the groups we offer at MCC. Campus is better at the satellite campus than it is at the Oceanside but both are much better than the other schools I have been to. Overall great facility, great staff (admissions office has long hours- very accommodating), and great students.

Mira Costa is a great College to go to for any future educational plans. Whether you are transferring to a 4-year, or just taking classes for fun, Mira Costa is the way to go. A tip I have is to break out of your shell as much as possible. It can be a little challenging at first to meet people at a Community College, but the more people you talk to, the greater chance of making friends. The arts program at Mira Costa is phenomenal! State of the art music facilities, professional studios and recording rooms, high end pianos and microphones, and the latest and greatest for photography. Definitely do not under-estimate the arts program at this school.

Academics

My classes are not too hard. The class size does not usually top 30, and all of the professors are incredible. I have only had positive experiences with my professors. They really care about you and your future and will do anything they can to help you out. The workload depends on which class you have but it is relatively easy to balance school and a job.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The Oceanside campus at Mira Costa has great facilities. It is just an overall great campus. The computer labs are great, and the library is always a good place to get work and studying done. The parking is not the best at the OC campus. Too many people and too little parking spots. A relatively safe campus, not too much goes down.

As a military veteran with combat injuries and a single dad of two this college has helped me greatly with all its resources. The veterans club is really great, especially l when you are needing to just reconnect.

Academics

I have been a full-time student now for two semesters and I find that I like the on campus classes more. All of the professors on campus that I have taken have worked with my disabilities and really took the time to help me understand.

Campus Facilities & Safety

I really like the campus as a returning student, lots of resources available in the computer labs and it does not take all day to get from one side of the campus to the other. The atmosphere is inviting and it has a great mix of students.

I was asked to come live in Oceanside with my cousins because MiraCosta was a few miles away from where they live. I just applied and didn't see what the school really had to offer me. I can tell you that I fell in love with the campus, the atmosphere, and the generosity with everyone. I love that this is a smoke-free campus. Not just sections, but the whole or most of the campus is smoke-free! I moved here from Los Angeles and all the campuses there are more like smoke for free, which means anyone can smoke and can smoke anywhere. The rooms smelled and the students smelled bad as well. I love that this campus is close to home, it is very very clean and well kept, organized, and the view of the ocean is beautiful. The parking lots are smaller but there is usually parking if you look in the right places at the right time. I can't stop gushing over how excited I am for the future being at MiraCosta College

Academics

I love that MiraCosta has so many programs that they offer for students. Did I mention that they are free? YES! That is like winning the lottery to a full-time student now a days. They have a staff dedicated to each program or class that they offer. This semester I am taking 17 units and yes, it is a lot but I am so lucky that my teachers this semester are passionate about their jobs. It is a career to them and not just a job that gives them a paycheck at the end of the semester. My English teacher is amazing. She helps the students in every way she can so everyone gets it before we move on. My math teacher is a very shy man, but he so kind and helpful when we have questions. My counseling teacher is the most passionate about his job. He motivates and inspires me to help others after every class. My Criminal Justice class is my hardest class but I love that he challenges us every class period. My psych teacher is amazing! She makes homework fun because she makes us interact with each other so we understand the concepts better.

Campus Facilities & Safety

I can talk about the atmosphere at MiraCosta for days. I love the friendliness that everyone brings to the table. I am lucky to walk into every office I need to go to and have the nicest, most patient people helping me every step of the way. The computer labs are organized and clean. I like that they have staff walking around to see if anyone needs help. There are days when I need the staff member to sit next to me the whole time to help me with computer difficulties and there are days where I don't need them but they just greet you to see how you are doing for the day. There is campus police around the campus to make the students feel safer. The club room is where the club members can hang out and do homework and it is helpful to me because I can read, study and eat there. It is a friendly place to study and meet new people there as well.

Overall it's a nice community college, with friendly instructors and students around. the only thing is school kind of old and need some updates, classroom is small and sometimes you could hear another instructor talking from the classroom next door.

Academics

Many choices of classes/programs, most professors are friendly, kindly just met a marketing instructor, he seems hate Asian students. Workload is Ok and class size is good, I don't like too many students in one classroom.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Very friendly, facilities need to be improved. parking also a problem especially in the beginning of the semester. Need to be improved. Pretty safe campus. Once I got an alert from campus police, I got email, text message, I think it's pretty in time and let me feel very comfortable to study in this school.
