Reviews for Raritan Valley Community College
Raritan Valley Community College shouldn't even be identified as a community college. I believe that my college equally ranks or exceeds the level of difficulty of a four year university. The majority of the population assumes that community colleges are for people who don't strive to achieve much. Before attending community college, I was a student at a preparatory school, and the people there generally had nothing great to say about community colleges, admittedly I was one of them. But after attending RVCC for a year, I found that was not true. There is an abundance of high achieving students here which is very motivating. If I were to give a tip for prospective students, I'd say don't let the title of "community college" scare you. Here, you'll find great academics and hardworking people that make RVCC one of the top community colleges in the nation. The staff is friendly, and always willing to help. The students are very welcoming and don't judge you based on race, appearance, or sexual orientation. The atmosphere is very comfortable.
Although the class sizes were large at times, the professors were generally very helpful and gave a considerable amount of work. However, there are honors courses at this college, that I have had experience with and it is implied that a heavier workload comes with an honors course, but, I found it to be very doable. Again, the professors were happy to help, and always available in person, through phone, or through email to answer any questions. I don't have any complaints about the academics. My favorite course at RVCC was Honors English Composition II. I felt that I really had a connection with my peers as well as my teacher. Our classes were discussion based, seeing that we sat in a circle for all of the classes. It's great to hear the opinions of others, and see how you can relate your opinion to theirs to find some sort of common ground. I found that my analytical and writing skills greatly improved because of the comfortable and encouraging atmosphere of the class.
Campus Facilities & Safety
The campus facilities were excellent. There are many computer labs, gyms, eating areas available on campus, which makes college life arguably much easier. The campus atmosphere surprised me when I began my college career at RVCC. Although there are many students, I was able to be part of a close knit group as a result of joining the Filipino Club. In addition to a great campus atmosphere and campus facilities, there were many established organizations on campus that allowed students to become acquainted with others, to have a real college experience. My favorite aspect about the campus is that there are many quiet places to study, with the large library being one of them. This definitely helps during midterm and final exam time when everyone is scrambling about campus to write research papers, essays, finish presentations and such. My favorite place to study on campus is the Holocaust Center located on the second floor of the RVCC library. Not many people know about it, which is a shame. There are comfortable couches to read on, four computers with quick internet access and great scenery of the front of the RVCC campus. Overall, everything on campus is great, easily accessible and beneficial to all RVCC students and faculty.
