Overall

The school campus is nice. Very green. Some of the buildings are fairly new but the scent is still there. Sometimes it feels like you are still in high school, same faces same actions, kids goofing around and making plans after school. This brings some comfort for you are familiar with a lot of these students, but sometimes it is annoying because you thought everything would be different. College transitions should have been a huge change, but is not. I hope that when I start over most of the familiar faces are gone, but find one nice familiar face that wont make me uncomfortable and intimidated but welcomed and releived.

Academics

Classes over all are not big, well it depends on what you are taking. Most of my classes are the size that I have always been used to. Maybe about 30 students. It's not that bad since most of these students are focused and know what they want. Everyone seems to pay more attention and take lots of notes and is more helpful with one another. Teachers also seem a bit more indifferent unless you give them a reason to care. Most prefessors are very strict and expect everything on time but are very understanding and helpful when you communicate with them. Homework is not a lot but is a lot of thinking, more time consuming. It is enough to keep you busy but not too much to overload you. Classes are not bad as long as you have determination and keep focused on your goal.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus overall is fine. The tragedy that happened a couple of months ago still lingers in the thoughts and words of the students and staff in the campus. However I really doubt that anyone feels threatened or unsafe. For the most part I believe that everyone understands that it was something that happened. Sort of an accident. There's more security now since then and that puts some peace of mind on some students. For me the thing that really bothers me about the school is parking! It is horrible to have to drive because besides school there are other abligations. And you must drive because taking the bus means being late to work or not running errands you need to do, but driving also means you might be late to class because finding parking is extremely hard. Yes you can get there super early and try to find parking then but some of us have other duties and is not alwayas possible. School is school and sometimes things happen but over all this is a great school with horrible parking, but what school isnt.

Santa Monica College is located in the city of Santa Monica. Great location, easy access to public transport. This college has a great reputation for being the #1 school for transfers to UCs, USC and other private schools. The campus is very clean, well decorated.

Academics

Because of its reputation and the budget cuts, every student wants to study at SMC and therefore, it is very hard to get the classes you want especially if you sign up late. The profesor are very great though. They take their time to make sure every student is up-to-date since the classes are small. You get to learn easily. But the profesors give too much assignment especially if you are a Science student.

Campus Facilities & Safety

This campus has a great atmosphere and it is the most diverse campus demographically: there are students from Europe, Asia and Africa i.e. from almost everywhere. You can have easy access to facilities such as the library rich with books, novels (...) However, the computer labs are always packed and it is hard to find a parking lot on campus if you arrive after 8AM. Safety is not an issue.

This school is well-known for transferring into UCLA and UCB. It is true that students are working hard on this school and the professors are knowledgeable. This is what SMC attracts me most. However, because of the budget cut and the increasing number of students, there are not enough classes available for students.

Academics

Our school offer 8-week, 12-week and 18-week classes on spring and fall and 8week or 6-week classes on summer and winter. Normally, its class size 20-40, but some econ classes are lectures which have about 100 students. Professors are knowledgeable and well-educated: most of them are with PhD degree. Most of them are easy-going and willing to help students.

Campus Facilities & Safety

With the number one transferring into UCLA, SMC has an academic campus atmosphere. Also, it usually holds sports competition, such as football, table tennis and volleyball competition to entertain students. Other student services, such as computer labs and math labs, are good. If students need any help in study, they can make an appointment with tutors. As for the campus safety, it is good too. Few months ago, a student reported that she heard someone was taking a gun to school. Then the policemen besieged the school immediately and searched for suspects. At last, it turned out to be that is just a mistake. So, the campus safety is quite good. However, the food in restaurant is expensive and not delicious. This is what most students are not satisfied with. Another drawback is that there is not enough parking space from Monday to Friday.

This school has many opportunities: from transfer guidance, to the TAP program for exclusive priority admission at UCLA, to the Honor Societies, to the Student Government, etc. The school has the whole gambit of normal programs and much more, and they are all above average.

Academics

The classes at Santa Monica College are great. Almost all the departments are great and to have the best experience I would highly recommend using ratemyprofessro.com. I can vouch for the Social Sciences - all the programs are amazing and many professors also lecture at UCLA.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The Campus is gorgeous, probably one of the most friendly and beautiful (except maybe for SBCC's campus). It definitely feels safe with all the police patrolling after night fall. I never had to park my car but I hear that's just about the only complaint from students regarding the campus.

I have personally adapted to the very friendly, clean, and sustainable environment that surrounds me Monday through Thursday every week. My favorite experiences have been the diverse, funny, and friendly individuals that I've encountered and the art.

Academics

I love my classes at the moment. I am taking Anthropology 22, Speech 7, English 1, and Native American History. I have homework everyday. My class sizes are all fairly comfortable and I also enjoy the number of students that are in the classes as well.

Campus Facilities & Safety

I enjoy the clean and friendly atmosphere of my college. I also enjoy the architecture of the buildings and library. Computer labs are always occupied by students. Campus police do their jobs well and the parking is always a difficult to find since my school is very crowded. The club organizations are great.

The school lives up to it's reputation of being the number one transfer college compared to what I hear from other students that attend other community colleges. I like that the school is into motivating students to reach their academic goals, especially the counselors.

Academics

Academically, I am pretty satisfied with all the departments except the math. Now I am not saying that all the math professors are horrible at S.M.C., I just mean that there are some great professors and some not so great professors within the department and many other students share the same opinions.

Campus Facilities & Safety

It is a beautiful campus, clean, and pretty safe. Now at night safety might be a little of a issue but that has to be partly a responsibility of the student to be more aware, especially when being on campus or near campus during the night time. Parking is a challenge! Some students complain that they have to pay for a pricey parking pass and then there really isn't parking. Sometimes students have to come hours earlier before their classes to find parking.

What I like most about Santa Monica college, is how helpful everyone is. Being new to Santa Monica, I did not know where any of my classes were, but whenever I asked a peer, faculty member, or professor they helped me right away. Now that I know my way around campus I help others just as others helped me. Another thing I like about Santa Monica, is the variety. There are lots of things to choose from no matter what you are doing. From eating, peers, classes, and degrees there are lots to choose from which I think comforts any one who is not sure of there educational goals.

Academics

At the moment I am a full-time student at Santa Monica, so I have four classes. My classes are Jazz: An American Journey, English Composition, Pre Algebra, and Introduction to computers. So far I have enjoyed all of my classes in there own way. I like my jazz class so much that it inspired me to play the tenor saxophone, in my personal life. The class room is big enough to sit over one hundred students comfortably. The work is moderate and fair. My engllish class is my favorite because, I also plan to major in english so I enjoy learning about it as much as possible. The class is small so the teacher is able ot focus on each of the students one on one which is very useful. The work is simple. My pre algebra class showed me how important math is in life, because of this class I now try to use math in my everyday life to make things easier. This class is also small so the teachere has time for one on one sessions which again is very helpful. Last but not least my introduction to computers class is medium sized but sits everyone very comfortably. The work is Moderate.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus is beautiful. There are water falls, tall trees, and shady grass. The facillities are kept clean at all times. The computers are up to date and easy to use. The organizations are very helpful and supportive. The parking is fine and the campus is very safe. The food in the cafeteria is great and has plenty of selections.

Santa Monica College is a great school overall, it is number one in transfers and it offers many resources around campus. The student life is very fast pace yet relaxing at the same time, it is a friendly place and you are welcomed very nicely. It is also located a few blocks away from the beach so you know you'll have fun.

Academics

This campus offers diverse programs and classes for different type of majors and for different types of people. There are online classes available for those who need to be more flexible and the schedules are really good. The professors are really straight forward and dedicated to education so that assures you a great education. The workload is not so heavy and it is manageable, you wont stress out much at Santa Monica. Sure there are much great classes here but they sure fill up fast.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere here at Santa Monica College is very friendly, it is a great place to meet new people and you'll be sure to fit in. There is a variety of computer labs around campus to make your day easier especially at the Cayton Center where you'll find an available computer always. Parking is hard to find around here but for eighty dollars you get a parking space in the school's parking structures. Safety is another good thing about Santa Monica College because it is located around a very nice neighborhood.

The quality of professors, classes, online resources and the library is outstanding. I especially appreciate the willingness of the professors to meet with students for extra help outside of class. There are a number of helpful workshops for students to learn more about library and research skills. The vast number of reference database material accessible through the library is on par with four year universities.

Academics

I am graduating this fall with an associate's degree in business. The Business Department has assembled an excellent curriculum including business communications, intercultural communications, management and human relations studies which are vital for real life work success. The workload is reasonable, the homework is relevant and the professors have extensive experience in the business world.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The parking is challenging but SMC has partnered with Santa Monica Big Blue Bus system to provide students with free rides on any line, any time. Although I have a car, I have chosen to commute on the BBB in order to save time and money. The campus feels safe and I can always identify SMC police and security personnel nearby. There are many computer labs available to students six days each week and I have only had to wait once to use a terminal.
