I love Shepherd University's atmosphere. It's quite small, so there are a lot of familiar faces walking around at all times. The smell of coffee from the Sweet Shop floats down the streets in the mornings, giving a warm and comforting feeling when starting the day. The professors are incredibly knowledgeable in their fields of expertise, and the smaller class sizes allow for them to interact with each student 1-on-1. Shepherd is supportive of culture and diversity, as well as caters to the students' individual necessities and interests by offering a wide variety of courses, events, and on and off campus activities. I couldn't feel more at home.

I really enjoy the overall atmosphere of Shepherd University. I was given an opportunity to transfer, but chose not to because I like the vibe of the school. While it may not be the fanciest campus, the one with the most or best parties, or the ritziest place in the state to go to college, the degrees here (especially for my major, education) have a whole lot of value. I am only finishing my first year, and have already made so many friends on campus. Because it has a very small campus feel, I know many people on campus. I love how I can come to campus and go to the Ram's Den, seeing all the fraternities I know socializing (I usually hang out with Phi Kappa Tau). Then I can head to class and see several people I know on the way there. When I grab lunch on German street I'm on a first-name basis with the wait staff, and when I hit the gym I know everyone on their staff and many people working out. When the day's winding down, I can grab dinner somewhere on or immediately off campus, come back, and hang in the residence apartments with friends and expand my social circle even more. When I need to get away from it all, I can go to the library or the 24-hour room. The system of the school just works for me. I think Shepherd's a really good place to be and I look forward to coming back next year.
