Overall

Great diverse campus where the students, faculty and staff are all friendly. The campus is large, but easy to navigate. I highly recommend attending new student orientation so you can be introduced to a number of resources on campus and know where everything is located. Joining a club or organization will help tie you better to the campus life and further your success.

Academics

Absolutely love the Chicana/o Studies classes. All of the professors that I have had truly enjoy teaching and sharing their knowledge with students. They support you one hundred percent and will go the extra mile to ensure your success. At times the workload can be a bit much, which is usually with newer professors. The Chicana/o Studies professors try to keep your costs down by assigning readings that are available through the library catalog for free, so that is a bonus. The class sizes varies by topic and professor. There are a handful of professors who are very popular with the students and their classes tend to fill up pretty quickly.

College Life

The location is in the San Fernando Valley, which is only a short car ride away from downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and beaches. There are a number of eateries on campus and the businesses surrounding the campus are plentiful. Campus housing is constantly expanding and improving. There are multiple opportunities to get involved on campus, with various events happening throughout the year and student clubs/organizations that you can join. Using CSUN's online page "MataSync" I am always able to find out what events are happening on campus. I have yet to attend a sporting event and couldn't tell you where to go to find a schedule of games, but know of a few people who like our basketball team. While there doesn't seem to be much crime, there is a large police presence on campus, so you feel a little more safe. I live off campus so I cannot speak to evening or weekend activities on or around campus.

I really like the diversity in CSUN. Students are able to experience different cultures through their classmates and friends. The most memorable experience for me was when I become one of the interns that started a wellness program designed to help improve the lifestyle of CSUN faculty and staff. I love helping and this program helped me to do so. I recommend that all students to be involved because through this they will get to know people and this will make it easy for them to adjust in the college life. Also, it is a good way to network and eventually they'll see the benefits of networking when they start to look for jobs.

Academics

Some classes are extremely hard some are easy but still requires dedication. Some of the professors I've talked to are very helpful and will take time to give you advice some are just very strict and sort of hard to talk to.

College Life

Students here in CSUNare friendly. In our department, we encourage everyone to participate and get involved. I am part of Kinesiology Majors Club and my job is to inform the students of different opportunities and help them get involved. We encourage them to not wait for opportunities and instead make them.

I am a first year transfer student at CSUN. Overall I believe CSUN need a lot of improvements in all areas of the school because it is very boring concerning its social life .Lastly, I love the psychology program at CSUN and the professors.

Academics

Speaking for the Psychology program only I would describe the program to be one of the best. The workload can be at times a lot ,but worth the efforts because the professors and TA's are very helpful.

College Life

The social atmosphere, clubs, organizations, activities and weekends activities are not the best because CSUN is a commuter school, Campus safety is great because the police station is close to the campus.

I love CSUN a lot! The campus is really nice and open, and there's always something to do. I've found a lot of support for students whether it be at the University Student Union or Matador Involvement Center, there are tons of ways to get involved and get help with your college experience.

Academics

Classes vary from average to auditorium size, workload is typical college workload. Best professors include Marcy DeVeaux in Public relations and Barbara Comstock in Women and Men in the Media. DoYoung Lee for GWS.

College Life

Strong Greek Life Big Show every Fall Lots of events and things to do Strong Queer Community - LGBT community center being built Something for everyone to do Women's Center has lots of resources and supports women's issues

Northridge State is a good school, but a commuter school. The night life is pretty subdued but the campus is beautiful though, especially at night. The proximity to Los Angeles is an added benefit, in addition to Universal Studios and the Universal City Walk being only 30 minutes away. Its in close proximity to a lot of shopping and various restaurants, if wishing to dine out.

Academics

The classes are good and thought provoking. I really enjoy the different programs and electives that the school has to offer. The workload is manageable and the class sizes, for the most part are adequate, not too many students per teacher. Also if a student needs help, the school also offers a writing lab to aid them.

College Life

Clubs and organizations are apparent on campus, but not overwhelming. There is a meet the clubs day at the beging of each semester so new and incoming student can see what the campus has to offer. Northridge State isn't very big on sports, but basketball and baseball would probably be the most popular.

CSUN is a great school for the working student. I take classes at night and work during the day to pay my living and tuition bills. The campus is clean and friendly, and I've enjoyed all the professors I've learned from so far.

Academics

Professors at CSUN are knowledgeable and friendly. The workload is tough if you work full-time as well, but clear syllabi and understanding professors make things manageable. Class sizes in my master's program are small (less than 30), and the faculty are great!

College Life

Not much of a social life at CSUN due to this being a commuter campus -- if you're looking for it, I'm sure you can find it though. Lots of clubs to join and restaurants to try in the area. Campus safety is not a problem; I have 6-10pm class and walk across campus and in the surrounding areas with no problems.

CSUN is a welcoming college. There is a diversity within the race and gender. They have alot of exciting events going on. You can easily get involve and they encourage it as well. One memorable event is the frats step shows as well as the Big SHow. I love it!

Academics

Many of the classes are in a learning environment. Some of the class sizes are bigger like with 200 people. However, the professor are very efficient, educated, and make the classroom setting fun. You really can understand information through their teachings. You also can get to know them better during their office hours which is very helpful.

College Life

They have 2 club days for the whole school year. Clubs & organizations are easy to spot and join...There is also some events that take place after dark such as the Big Show. The safety is alright too. You have campus security that can make sure you get to your car safe.

I like the orange grove! If you are not used to a large university, I would say not to attend here. It is not that expensive, which is a plus. I cannot say that the education was a joke, you really will learn about the world--and whatever subject you specialize in--by going here.

Academics

I feel like there was a lot to be desired. My department was not set up well, but at least there weren't that many people in the grad program. It was too theory based, my program. The professors were helpful to an extent but I do not think my interests vibed well with their specialties. Of course, I was a graduate student.

College Life

It wasn't that fun, because the social atmosphere did not feel centered. There are activities but it is hard to know about them, and they seem to be schedule during the busy parts of the day--during classes!

Overall

My first time stepping into the campus, I experienced feelings of anxiety as the university’s size was overwhelming. I started my first semester without knowing many people, so I felt inspired to join a Latin organization named Hermanas Unidas de CSUN during a student fair in which I met wonderful people throughout my student years. Everyone at CSUN seemed to be goal oriented, friendly, and willing to help those who were not familiar with the university. I recommend new applicants to feel free to use the resources available on campus and ask questions to their peers as everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help out. Everywhere you turn, there are posters and flyers with relevant information. So, I would recommend exploring the campus as it has beautiful cafeterias and green areas to relax and study. The library is enormous and provides you with different spacious private or group rooms that accommodate to your personal needs. The university has great entertaining fairs/events during the week full of relevant information for students, which opens new doors for networking and socializing with a diverse population of students with positive attitudes and great enthusiasm who may share your same interests.

Academics

Most professors at CSUN are highly professional, knowledgeable, and available to help outside of class hours. Moodle has become the best and most accessible way to keep up with professors and assignments related to your courses. This provides a great advantage as it saves precious time and increases the likelihood of being successful in class as students have control and access to material covered in class. The class size varies from a 1:25 to a 1:60 ratio, depending on the class. Managing your classes is fairly easy as long as you set your appointments and follow up as required. If you ever have questions regarding financial aid, classes, or any school fees, it is highly recommended you set an appointment during the beginning of a semester as this would save time and ensure a better service.

College Life

The social atmosphere at CSUN is extremely inviting. It ranges from simple social gatherings at the USU with great music and people to socialize with during the beginning and end of each semester to wonderful musical plays. There are several organizations to pick from that fits to every student’s personal interests such as fraternities, sororities, community service organizations, educational organizations, religious clubs and many more. Fairs are offered in the beginning of each semester, which provide students with information about each club or organization. One of my favorite events was the farmers market early in the morning in the beginning of the semester. The cafeterias are clean and provide a great relaxing atmosphere as students enjoy a meal before or after going to class.

Overall this school is very good in academics and student involvement. I recommend that when going into any school that you become part of a club or some how get involved in school. Getting involved well make college a better experience

Academics

For the most part the psychology program is pretty easy. The classes that I have taken are very interesting and the professors are very knowledgeable. The work load that I have received is minimal and easy to do. The class sizes are relatively big

College Life

The school has a large amounts of ways to get involved in campus, either clubs/orgs/frats/sororities. Even though it is a commuter school once you become involved in any activity in school you dont really want to leave
