Overall
I have been in several community colleges and state universities in CA, ID, AZ, and AL. Troy University is outstanding primarily with student support services. On the Troy campus there is a tutoring center, writing center, first year studies program, adaptive needs center (ADA students), etc. There is a great emphasis in helping first year students gain the tools and skills necessary for academic success. The IT support for online students is quick and available 24/7. The online courses (eTROY) which can be taken in conjunction with on campus courses are convenient when course selection is limited. Greek, ROTC (Army & Air Force), Athletics, Music, Student Government, ASL (Interpreting Program and Labs), International student organizations and community are just a few of the highlights of Troy University. Troy University is a military friendly school and great for the non-traditional student.
Academics
Professors and Instructors are generally concerned about the student. There are a few primarily instructors who have a big ego and act as if their class is the only one that matters. Class size in lower level courses such as music appreciation, speech are generally a larger. As a student progresses to the upper level classes the size is smaller and allows more interaction between students during discussions and activities. The Psychology comprehensive course prepares a student for graduate school.
College Life
Troy University is located in a rural area of Alabama; about 1 hour from Montgomery, 1 hour from Dothan, 2 hours from Auburn. There is plenty of fast food and sit down restaurants. There is very little entertainment other than school events, movie theater, Greek activities and organization activities. Campus safety is decent except you hardly see a officer unless they are writing a ticket. It was very common at the other campuses I have been on to see officers patrolling the campus on foot and gave a great sense of security, Troy University is safe but it would be better to see a more active role from campus police might. Parking is an issue but is not unique to only Troy University although most students would have you believe this is the worst parking ever for a campus. There is an extensive bus system that runs to various off campus housing complexes, local stores and around campus. As of August 2012 the campus has been declared a Tobacco Free (Don't support).

Overall
I like the fact that the professors really care about the students. They are very approachable and helpful. I like that the university is medium sized so that you see people you knw but it is not too small.
Academics
The programs are really goo dif you want to study education. The language department where I study is not very good, though. The workload is fairly light, but I do not feel I have learned very much in my time there. However, classes are small which is nice as well.
College Life
There are a lot of social events on campus which is good because there is not much to do in the city. The city is small and limited in social events. Weekends are pretty dead at the university, as most all of the students go home.

Overall
Overall, the school is a nice school. Each teacher caters well to the students, and this is the absolute highest my grades have been in school period. All of the teachers are very understanding with people's work schedules and family problems.
Academics
The class sizes are just right. There aren't too many students and there are many compassionate teachers at this school. The workload is alright although, most of the students are older so we go over a lot of the same topics back to back.
College Life
We don't have many campus organizations, clubs, or athletics, but the safety is top of the line. Security is always close by, so that's a plus. The social atmosphere is terrific, there are many diversities at this school and everyone is so welcoming.
