Sisseton Wahpeton College focuses on preserving the language and culture of the Dakota while providing instruction in undergraduate studies, vocational/technical programs and research.
Academics include associate’s programs for those expecting to transfer to a four-year university, associate’s degrees as two-year completion programs and certificates for one-year programs.
The offerings at SWC include customary as well as atypical choices, such as:
- Business Administration
- Chemical Dependency Counseling
- Cross Cultural Counseling
- Dakota Studies
- General Studies
- Registered Nursing
Admissions applications must include transcripts as well as certification of Tribal membership or Tribal ID. The application for admissions and other requirements can be found on the school’s website.
Tuition is set by the Board of Trustees, and varies for ISC funded and non-ISC funded students. Costs per credit hour, registration and other fees are listed on the SWC website.
Financial aid is available to eligible students. All prospective students should fill out the FAFSA and receive their award notice prior to applying for financial aid. It should also be noted that SWC does not participate in the federal Stafford Loan Program.
The Student Support Services office is there to assist students in many ways. College life can be overwhelming to new students, so orientation is required. Counseling services are available through Student Support Services, as well as tutoring, workshops, peer mentoring and cultural events.
