I think the best think about Texas State University is the atmosphere of the campus. The diversity and friendliness of everyone makes is a great place to learn and share ideas with people. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the professors and people are always in a good mood. The professors really care about their students interests more than just going through the normal routines. If you're a social person, Texas State is definitely the place to be. The people really do love to collaborate and learn from each other. A tip for incoming freshman is to definitely stay focused on their studies and not the weekend! There are many places to go on the weekends such as "The Square" if you do have the free time but just remember to not procrastinate any assignments or studying that needs to be done!

Academics

There are many programs offered at Texas State. Depending on what your field of studies are going to be, you can have classes ranging from 20-300 students. The workload will definitely vary from course to course but you'll find that it doesn't matter if the subject you are working on interests you. The professors in the very large classes will always answer questions when asked just like the small classes so don't be shy to ask a question! You can sit in the back or front of the auditoriums in the large classes and you will still hear the professors fine with the speakers throughout the room.

College Life

The social atmosphere is wonderful. Everyone is always in a good mood, even when its raining! I really do think its because of how beautiful the campus is. It's very hilly here so it was definitely a change of scenery for me and probably for you too! There are many various clubs that are odd and interesting and you can almost sign up to play any sport you want. You can also create a club if you have a minimum of 10 people to start it with you. Campus safety has never been an issue for me but in the very few instances there are crimes committed, an email is sent immediately to every student on campus. As far as our athletics program, a few years ago Texas State has moved up in to Division I. Every year we good better in each sport with the record setting incoming-freshman. We are part of the sunbelt conference and almost made it to a bowl game this year for football! The Square is a nice place to have fun on the weekend, there are many bars and concerts held there. Also just outside of campus, you can have some fun in the river that runs through it or go to some local movie theaters around town. If you're 21 years of age, you can take a party bus with your friends to 6th street in Austin and will be picked up there by the party bus at 3 am! If your a fan of shopping you will definitely love the outlet mall about 10 minutes away from campus.

Overall

I have really enjoyed my time at Texas State. Everything from Sewell park to the square, or downtown San Marcos, become great places to hangout with friends or meet new ones. A favorite memory I have was jumping into the San Marcos river in January last year, at a balmy 72 degrees in mid winter it was awesome. If you plan coming to Texas make sure you are VERY comfortable with stairs because that is the main complaint from incoming freshman, but by the time your senior year rolls around you will appreciate the calves of steel.

Academics

I like to think of this school as a bunch of weekend warriors. Those who go out and have a good time on the weekend but focus and take of what needs to be done during the week. I definitely fall into this category and am able to handle both fairly well but I've seen numerous people lose focus of why they came to school in the first place. I'm in the geography department which is fantastic! I haven't had one geography related teacher that wasn't great at what they do. As for my other professors I've only had one super difficult class mainly because of the professor. Yet for nearly all of the classes at Texas state, if you go to class take decent notes and study some what for the tests at least a b is your future.

College Life

Texas state gets characterized for being a party school. In my eyes that's because we just know how to throw parties that everyone hears about. The best thing is if getting swasted isn't your scene, then you aren't judged for it. I often go to a party and leave completely sober but still had a good time socializing. Being surrounded by awesome other cities doesn't hurt either, San Antonio and Austin an easy drive away. I drive into Austin to go and see some killer live music, and the nearby new branfuals which is home to Wursfest ( sausage, beer and German festival google it)and the best water park in the world. As far athletics go we are getting there. Our football team became bowl eligible this year, and our volleyball team won our conference. So we are competitive in our conference, it's just the attendance can be abysmal at times. The will games where the football stadium is only filled with spotted fans, however we are trying to have a culture shift so maybe the up and coming freshman can help bring some life to school spirt. As far as clubs and safety , there is over 300 clubs on campus and it isn't hard to make one. And there has never been a point on campus where I've never felt 100% safe.

LOVE THE AREA!! San Marcos is beautiful and fun. The University is also beautiful...loved the buildings and scenery.I am looking forward to touring the school hopefully in the next month. I plan on visiting on my way to Houston to visit family...I also will see the area around more. I like the area. I have an aunt who lives close by in Austin. I also am looking forward to meeting the Young Life leaders in the area...I want to pursue being a part of the Young Life there as well.

Academics

I am presently still in Wichita Falls High School...I take all AP classes, play volleyball, and work. I am in Spanish club, and one of the MC's for our upcoming Howdy Talent Show. I like to be busy with various activities including my church events/meeting for our youth group as well as Young Life.

College Life

I am looking for lots of activities outside the classroom. I love the social aspect of college life and really want to actively pursue various organizations in the college I go to. I am a female so really important I feel safe in my college. I love athletics and plan to play intramurally...volleyball or even soccer.

Overall

After visiting four different universities, Texas State stood out above all of them. The friendly atmosphere, along with the big school, but small feel were the top two things that impressed me the most.

Academics

I have been accepted to Texas State University. I chose this school because they are ranked one of the top schools for my degree field. I plan on attending Texas State University this coming fall to obtain my masters degree in Wildlife Biology.

College Life

I have visited Texas State University only once, but I have already enrolled in my New Student Orientation. I am excited to learn more about the different clubs and organizations that I may get involved in. I have already been following their baseball team and look forward to attending many other athletic events.
