Reviews for University of Washington, Tacoma Campus
UW Tacoma in one world, adaptable. UW Tacoma, has the same size and outline as a community college and I say this because I transfered during my junior year. Coming from a small, open, commuter based community college I was scared of the thought of a new college life. However, by coming to UWT I was able to adapt, felt comfortable, and somewhat like home even though unlike a traditional campus we do not have dorms. UW Tacoma unlike our large sister campus, has the capacity to be able to reach out to all 4300 students and getting them activity involved, wether it's within the school or outside the community. UWT provides great student leader opportunities open to all students, undergrad or graduate. One particular program that I am proud to be apart of and created so many great opportunities and memories for myself is joining our Student Activities Board. The Student Activities Board is a group of students who are motivated and driven to provide ways to get students actively involved, providing fun and even education events on campus to benefit the students, faculty, staff, and the Tacoma community. Since I've joined this program I was given opportunities to see myself grow as a student leader and a leader within my community. Being able to reach out to students and see a brighter future for myself and others, by utilizing all the resources this university provides. Staff members here most importantly are such an amazing resource, and since working very closely with them; they are specifically here to help students. That is why whenever I meet prospective students, I always tell them to get involved, learn about the opportunities and resources your school provides, and most importantly make the most out of your college experience.
UW Tacoma's degrees are unique as we are broken down and divided into different programs; from IAS, Business, PP&E, and many more. Since we are a smaller campus we do not provide all degrees unlike our sister campus in Seattle. However, the great part is that if a student wanted to take a class, but it is only offered in Seattle they can duel enroll or take the class version online ! Since I am only a psych major I've only taken a few of the same professors, as well as some different professors for my electives and so far I've had no complaints on professors. Since being a sister school and a commuter campus a lot of the professors also teach at the main Seattle campus, but they still take the time to stay after or before class to help students. Since the class ratio is around 30:1 the professors really take the time to know your name and understand your academic background, which is something most students and myself appreciate. Workload for any professor is always different, so it is either you put in the time or you procrastinate and one thing for sure is to not procrastinate especially if you're a senior in your undergrad.
As I stated before UWT is filled with many ways in getting involved, with volunteer services, peer advising, rec. and fit, campus ambassadors, and many more ! We are also known to be such a diverse campus that there are multitude of different ethnic clubs and program specific ( Accounting, Psychology, and ect.) clubs here on campus. With so many active clubs and programs here on campus there is always something to do monday through friday ! From free rock climbing to open mic nights and even dances that different student programs host. We do have a mini fitness center, but as off December 2nd UWT will be getting a new University Y Center which is going to be for the students funded by the students to promote more student space and activity. Campus safety is top of the line here on campus, there is always someone of staff, they are visible, and they take the time to get to know you. Also, since we are a small campus we even have campus security escorting you to your cars even if they are far from campus. Since we are located in the heart of downtown Tacoma, we do get a lot of wonders and tourist coming around campus so campus security is always here to make sure that students, faculty, and staff are safe.
