Dana Chauncey Student at This School - Grad Year 2012
Regardless of the program or major class size is usually small, 15-30 students, which means your professor will know when you are in class or not. They are good at learning your name so you are not just a body in a crowd here. I started as a Business major and swited to History. I found the business courses to have a lighter work load than my history program. In Albers School of Business I recommend Dr. Peterson (economics). In the history department I highly recommend Dr. William Kangas, he is tough but you will learn so much more from him. Dr. Tracy Pepper is great, and in English there is Dr. Hawley. If you take French you must take Dr. Holly Waddel she is the best, most fun that you will have in foreign language. History has a fairly heavy work load with a lot of reading and writing. However, you can learn a ton and then some. The courses are interesting and there is a lot of variety in what you can focus on from Asia, Europe, and American History. I recommend taking at least one class with Dr. Henry Kamerling, especially Zombies: A History of the Undead--both fun and interesting.
Patricia Hines Alumnus - Grad Year 2005
Classsize was small - 35 approximately and the professors were usually available for meetings as long as you set up an appointment. I talked about work load above. I was in a program from the Education department and I liked the fact that I had a variety of programs to choose from in the school of education. I investigated the programs more after I started as I was unsure which one fit me best.
