Long Beach City College's overall appearance is open and welcoming. The Computer Department purchased new touch screen computers which offer the best in technology. The writing center was also a very important resource for me and assisted me primarily with reviewing essays. I was having difficulty in selecting my major and I met with a guidance counselor that went above and beyond in assisting me in my selection process. She suggested that I take an online personality test at home and then come back and discuss my options. I would recommend that students utilize the counseling services every semester to stay on the right academic path.

Academics

Biology is a class that comes to mind because they offer resources such as websites and extensive lab work to help as a visual aid as opposed to just reading a textbook. I have had good experiences with my professors. The professors give several examples of the course work to make sure that you fully understand the subject. Also, my professors offered extra credit work and study guides to help you excel in class. In my opinion the class size differs based on the subject.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Recently Long Beach City College went through major renovations. The offices relocated to the center of the campus and more seating areas are offered for the students. The Library offers rooms for students to reserve for studying and projects. The campus has onsite college police to ensure the students safety. A new parking structure was also added but with the school population parking is still a big issue.

Overall I really enjoy coming to this school. I did not know what to expect before I chose this school but I am glad I made the choice. The campus is really nice and is only improving. I feel that coming to this school has helped me prepare better for my future and for that I am thankful.

Academics

I've had one full time semester at this school. A class I really enjoyed was Greg Joseph's history class. He has a very extensive knowledge of history and made the class really interesting and enjoyable. That has been my favorite class so far at this school. Another class I took was Mr. Contreras' English 1 class. I've always been good at writing and taking his class helped me expand my writing ability.

Campus Facilities & Safety

I really enjoy the campus atmosphere at this school. I do not feel out of place at this school and it is a good environment to be at. I also feel safe walking throughout the campus even at night. Many of the facilities are older but there have been renovations done recently that have added new buildings. The parking is somewhat a hassle even with the new parking facility but it is not that big a deal.

Long Beach City College has some of the best professors and instructors that I have had during my lifetime. They seem to sincerely want you to get a quality education, this is what I like most about this school. I would suggest that prospective students get familiar with the campus and familiarize themselves with the available resources. Most of all new students should ask plenty of questions.

Academics

Initially, I have been in the Computers and Technology program. The professors are very knowledgeable with applications and computer maintenance. Expect to have an abundance of work to complete in a short time frame. Test are given on the computer and written exams are also given. Classes have about 30-35 students on average. You will be expected to have access to Microsoft Office Suite and of course you need to have basic computer skills along with an e-mail account.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus is conducive to youth. There are a few matured students. Computer labs have assistants to help with your courses. There are many different campus organizations. Parking is a challenge, come early or walk a long distance. Safety around campus has shown improvement.

I am first of all entirely grateful for the opportunity to even attend college. Although I am happy to be in school I wish I would have been a bit more aware of the overall percentage rate of students here at Long Beach City College, and the weight that the name itself may carry in my quest to pursue an education in the aftermath. There are professors and teachers alike that are genuinely concerned about the betterment of individuals as a whole. I haven't really connected with my instructors as much as maybe I would have wish to have done, but I believe there is still time and opportunities to established those future relationships with those to come (fingers crossed). My favorite academic dept. would have to be business; but of course it is my major, so get pretty excited about getting the knowledge and brainstorming with others. I don't actually know of any secret ways of getting around the campus. The ability to be able to go play a little tennis and basketball allows me the opportunity to keep my mind fresh and energized to stay motivated to push through. The campus community as a whole are sociable people who enjoy networking. For me I believe there is always room for improvement, but the school is attempting to make the educational experience a more fruitful and more enjoyable atmosphere there.

Academics

I take management courses, so it does consist of a bit of reading and note taking, brainstorming and tactical thinking. The business staff are professional and helpful. They are always willing to help and see you succeed. The class size generally is very large in the beginning, but as time pass they grow smaller sometimes; a lot smaller than when you started. The work load is pretty fair and consistent, allowing you the opprtunity to grasp all that is needed in order to complete the course. sometimes it is a bit overwhelming, but I do welcome the challenge.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere of the campus is very energetic. People are always moving and there is always something for the students and faculty. People are serious about there education, there is a more diverse atmosphere as far as age is concerned, so the atmosphere is sometimes a bit more mature. They are currently renovating the school so the facilities are really headed in a positive direction. There are several computer labs accessible to the students as needed. There are many organizations and clubs to keep the students charged and involved. I am not particularly happy with the parking conditions, especially when you think of the cost of tuition. It is very easy to get parking tickets which I just can't afford. The campus safety is improving from what I have heard. I have not had any incidents, but I have heard of a recent incident which in return I'm sure will impact the decisions on security on campus. Overall the school is a good place to be and I'm grateful

I like the flexibility LBCC has allowed me to have with my school and work life. I also like the lower tuition fees which allows me to pay for school out of pocket and not rack up debt. I like the campus bookstores that have a variety of much needed books and supplies for students. In the past I have purchased many of my class supplies and last minute items at the two convenient locations on campus. The computer labs and library are also really helpful and accessible for the most part. I find many good places to study quietly all over campus but I do like to take advantage of the student facilities such as the math lab because there are tutors there that are willing to help you anytime and the best part is that it is a free service and facility for all LBCC students.

Academics

Classes range from 30 to 40 students and professors are good for the most part. I have a generous workload for each class but i would say that online classes have more homework and busy work that on campus courses.

Campus Facilities & Safety

My only peeve about the campus is the parking, though a large parking structure was recently built I arrive at school very early to find spots near my class to avoid walking a long ways in the dark after my evening courses. The computer labs and library are accessible most times and are a great resource for students. I especially like the free math tutoring in the Math and Science building - I have utilized that facility multiple times in the past and always find it helpful. I generally feel safe on the Liberal Arts Campus of LBCC - which is where I take all of my classes - I do not attend classes at the Pacific Coast Campus because it is in a bad area that I would not want to be around in the evening. The atmosphere is mixed at the campus with older students returning to school and younger students fresh out of high school. I find that most who attend LBCC are there to learn and not to waste the time of others in their class. d

I wish I had known what classes to selet for beginning computer. I whish I would have known about how to apply for scholarships, and prerequisites. How many classes that are offered in each department. The professors are professional, helpful, and challenging. Computer department,o far, has been my favorite academic department thus far. Dr. Rene Powell has given me great inspiration so far. There are several others as lbcc is full of wonderful professors. Get to school a half hour early so you can get a decent park and dont feed thr rabbits!! This term I will be working in the computer lab for my work study. It is a great honor for me as I have only been into computers for 3 semesters and have been able to increase my knowledge since I started where I can actually assist other computer studnts. I am a retired Postasl worker going back to school to keep up with technology. In the mists of financial unrest, the education opprtunities are still out there if you just reach for them and are willing to work hard.

Academics

The class size is a standard 35-40 students. You usually can get into a class if youre on the wait list as long as you show up on the first day. The programs that lbcc offers are termendous. They have parterend with another college to offer computer security as a major. The professors are always trying to find prigrams that the school can participate in to help the students. The professors follow the outlines for classes that is put out by the higher authorities. They challenge you and make learnoing fun as well as logical. They relate learning to the work environment. The work load is heavy and challenging.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus has added several multimillion dollar buildings. Some were donated and funded by alumni. That just goes to show the success that lbcc students have had over the years. "SUCCESS!" The facility is well kept both inside and out. Like all schools we have had our share of unpleasant mishaps. But the security is very visible on both campuses. The facility accommadates the disabled very well. They have their office, labs, parking, entry, and exit provisions. The main computer labs are open 4 days a week from 9am-9pm. Then we have 3 other labs open 5 days a week from 8am-5pm on both campuses.. The library on both campuses is open from 7am-9pm and on Sat. from 9am-3pm. Classes in english, math, writing are offered for free first come first serve to assist students. There are many clubs to be involved in. One of the new structures is a parking structure, which offersthousands of additional parking. Its well light. You can get chaparons to acompany you to you car.It has been a great experience thus far.

Long Beach City College is one of my stepping stones along the many more I have to pass through to obtain my educational goals. Nonetheless, the college has given me a chance to grow as a person. I am thankful that for Long Beach City College the campus gives acces to anyone that may come across a disability. The campus structure is reasonable, and the staff from the college help people move around if students need assistance. The campus is organized and students can walk around with no problem when looking for a classroom.

Academics

I personally have came across wonderful people at Long Beach City Collge. Not only was I taught by the Professors, but I was mentored by some. It feels great to know that teachers are willing to help students as much as they can, but it also depends on how much a student demonstrates and participates in classwork and homework. On the other hand, I have also gotten help from EOP&S which gave me additional guidance with councelors who are willing to go over educational goals and help students tackle classes down. In addition, the program also helps students with book loans and priority registration. The English and majors program is one of my additional resource among others. The club focuses in helping new or regular members with writing assignmets and reading. Not only to members help one another, but occasionally have fundraiser to help out the community and book swaps to expand the mind withalternative readings. Most programs or assistance students need are available in Long Beach City College and other campuses;however, students need to approach these resource on their own. Unfourtunately, the resource and help don't come walking towards student, but student must seek them to help themselves.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Long Beach City College President and faculty show that they care about the students safety first above anything. Parking lots are always being patrolled by security guards, so the campus feels safe. The atmosphere is amazing. Besides the diversity, students mingle with one another and help one another by forming study groups. Study groups make it really easy to recall information from subjects students don't understand. The library, success center, and labs helps with additional resources: books, computers, online data bases that are free, workshops, and tutoring. Thus, students have various mechanism provided by the school to be successful and get good grades.

What I loved about this school is the way most professors interact with their students and help them as much as possible. The staff members and the students are also as polite and helpful. I personally love this school, and everywhere you go you see students interacting with one another. No one is rude, you can practically go up to any student and ask for help of you're lost or if you can't find a certain class or building.

Academics

LBCC classes are like any other classroom except that there is more interaction between student and teacher. They may be challenging but if you manage your time wisely there is no way you can't pass them. If you need help there is tutor centers made up of other students and teachers who give up their time to help those who feel that they need it or even if it's just for extra practice. The professors are help full and most of them give up their own time to help students if needed as well. The class sizes are a little over 30 students but it makes it easier for a student to schedule appointments with their professors.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere is pretty warming, everyone tries helping one another if needed. The computer lab is located in the same building as the library, so the rules still apply but other than that you get as much help as possible. The campus has had one or two previous safety accidents but they have taken care of that, there is much more security than there was before, and its strongly enforced as well. The parking isn't as hard to find, there is a parking structure of 5 floors, plus there is two parking areas by the classrooms and the stadium in the back has a huge parking lot that is open for all students. The parking is only $1 per day or you can buy a whole semester pass for $20.

I am an older student making a career transition and becoming a registered nurse. I decided to attend Long Beach City College because I heard great things about the school as it relates to their nursing program. I am glad I decided to choose LBCC over Harbor College for a few reasons. Long Beach City College take great pride in helping their students stay on track and know exactly where they are and what they need (as far as classses etc..) to obtain their goals every step of the way. Especially being a little older that was very important to me. When I was researching colleges I wish I had known that going the community college route would have me in college for four years and only leaving with an Associates Degree, I wished I had researched 4 year colleges as well and maybe I would have reached my goal quicker, but, the academics at LBCC appear to be on the same level of that of a University because their professors are so edcuated and they want you to succeed, by being there for you 24/7. I had a outstanding Anatomy and Physiology teacher. Mr. Mudanauri for Anatomy and Dr. Gayle for Physiology. Both of these professors made me happy to get up in the morning and want to learn and want to become a nurse.

Academics

Since I am a nursing major, the classes were mostly science classes. The classes are well equipped large class rooms with plenty of seats. The classroom was always crowded because there are so many students wanting to become nurses. The Professors that teach the sciences are awesome and well educated. Very respectful to the students, but not too soft, very hard, but helpful. The workload at my college can be overwhelming, but should be because they are preparing us for everything we need to reach our goals. The classes were hard, but well organized and rewarding.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus atmosphere was very diverse not just ethnicity diverse, but age diverse as well, which made me feel very comfortable about being back in school. LBCC have a lot of young, yet mature college students at their school who had no problem helping me get around and get back into the swing of things. The school is also well kept and the computer lab is brand new with lots of computers to use. There never was a time that I had to wait to use a computer. They even have private rooms to use to study in! Just simply amazing really. Although they have many organizations to join I did not take part in any of them. The only negative thing I can say was the parking and I say WAS because they have taken care of that too. We have a brand new state of the art parking structure now so parking isn't even an issue. I've always felt safe on the campus and to my knowledge there was one incident on campus, but LBCC immediatley let everyone know what was going on, by sending us text alerts and they immediately beefed up security after that. I have no complaints, only good things to say about LBCC and my comments are sincere.
