Overall

Southeast Missouri State University offers a variety of majors to choose from nursing, education, computer science, math, sciences, agriculture, horticulture, and many new majors and minors have been added. Most recently a certificate in autism has been added since SEMO is a center for autism treatment. My most memorable memories is being a part of the Golden Eagles Marching Band for six years and two years in the ROTC program(Straight Arrow Drill Team, GMC Council and Arnold Air Society. There are many student organizations to choose from Resident Hall Association, Student Nurses Association, Student Teachers Association, Phi Beta Lambda, many Greek organizations and of course a strong intramural program. SEMO offers a variety of student intern opportunities and if you are a nursing major, clinicals will be two days a week at Southeast Hospital, St. Francois Medical Center and Anna Jonesboro Mental Health Center.

Academics

Class size is small except in science lab classes like microbiology and biology. Even though lecture are held in a lecture hall, the professors will know you by name and are willing to help you if needed. There is a campus tutoring center available at no cost. The workload is challenging and professors use a variety of multimediia to teach. My history teachers tested us with essay questions. I had some papers to write but did more article summaries especially in my nursing classes.

College Life

The social atmosphere is friendly and everyone gets along well. No hazing is allowed but as freshman I did have to a fun little thing singing I'm a little teapot. There are many clubs and organization. The number of greek organzations to choose from can be overwhelming but there is a guest room for anyone who needs it. The campus is safe and recently had new lighting added around the Greek housing, psychology building and band practice field. The students did an awareness need for more lighting with candles in a luminaria bag. The athletic teams are excellant in football, basketball,(went in the final 4 on year) and especially gymnastics and vollyball. There are many football games, basketball games, and excellent intramural team events to choose from each weekend or weekday evening.
