Originally a small liberal arts university, Mercyhurst has grown in size and academics. In addition to its picturesque main campus in Erie, the school has four other campuses to expand its educational reach. Mercyhurst College has begun to offer graduate degrees, as well, and is considering university status.
The university still focuses on undergraduate academics, however. More than 60 majors are available through the following divisions:
- School of Arts & Humanities
- Walker School of Business & Communication
- Hafenmaier School of Education & Behavioral Sciences
- Zurn School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics
- School of Social Sciences
Student life at Mercyhurst is grounded in the Catholic faith, offering many service and ministry opportunities. There are also many cultural and athletic opportunities, with more than 85 student organizations and several NCAA Division II teams.
Mercyhurst makes financial aid a priority, offering assistance to a large percentage of incoming freshmen. Federal financial aid programs, institutional scholarships and external grants and scholarships are all excellent opportunities to help with the cost of tuition.
To apply to Mercyhurst University, simply submit the online application with an official high school transcript, your SAT/ACT scores and an academic recommendation. A short writing sample is also required. Admissions procedures vary for adult and transfer students, as well as applicants to graduate programs.
50% of students gave Mercyhurst University 5 stars overall.
The faculty at Mercyhurst are the most incredible adults I've ever dealt with. Each of my professors seems to really care how successful I become and want to help me achieve my dreams. That is extremely important to me. The students also seem very nice and welcoming. I am a transfer student, and I live off campus, yet I still feel pretty connected to the school through my major departments. The campus is beautiful and the perfect size if you want personalized attention. In comparison to the school I transferred from, getting information is much easier and the staff are MUCH more pleasant to interact with. I most enjoy my classes because my professors make them interesting, but I have yet to really experience campus life because I live off campus and have an off campus job that consumes most of my time. However, I have attended a few hockey games, which are pretty exciting.
I like the class size and it is a small college compared to a large college, very nice atmosphere and livelyhood.
