From my GED to Con Ed classes my instructors, even those I don't have classes with, have encouraged me, given me resources to help excell. I've had those that have stayed late to help me with practical lab. I'm receiving materials and emails now from former GED instructors helping me with my Con Ed classes at another campus. I'm in the 50 year age range and have received insight, encouragement,& study help from fellow students younger than my own children.

Academics

My classroom sizes have all held twenty students or less. Each instructor I've had has different teaching styles. I've heard complaints about instructors from other students and dismissed them because of my own experiences. If you come with a high school attitude towards learning I've found you cannot benefit from college level instructors. When I first enrolled I hadn't seen the inside of a classroom as a student in thirty five years. My goal was and is to have a career in the Aviation industry. This is a very demanding and fast paced industry with very minimal room for error due to safety issues. My classes are very demanding because of this. I spend twelve hours per day in class or studying Mon through Fri and another twelve on the weekend. This is a strenuous study program towards a rewarding career.

Campus Facilities & Safety

As I'm currently not on the main campus I haven't had parking issues. As far as Campus Security, their presence is seen. My experiences have been friendly , informative, and encouraging. Truthfully I've received nothing but encouragement and helpful insight from the janitorial staff on up.

The campus of GTCC is amazing, there are great areas to study, work, and hang out with friends. Also the professors that I have had so far are great, they know how to teach so that their students learn the material. To me that is one of the greatest things about GTCC, the way that their professors care about their students. So far one of the most memorable moments that I have had would be when I was in Anthropology class and the professor decided to have an entire class period devoted to showing us skulls. It was a lot of fun to learn the differences in human skulls and other mamals skulls.

Academics

The workload, I think is quit far, I usually spend two to three hours a night on studying. However I do most of my homework in between my classes, so that I have time to do other things when I get home. There are many different classes and degrees to choose from. I chose to study Social Work and Psychology. So far all of the professors that I have had make learning fun and interesting. One of the reasons that I think that the professors are better here is because most of the classes aren't bigger than thiry to forty students.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The place that I seem to spend the most time other than classes is the library; they have the best quiet areas for studying or researching. There are many computers in the computer lab so you rarely have to wait on one, and in the rare event that you do, you can make the short walk to the library where they have a small computer lab. Everything about the campus is relaxed and enjoyable. There are rarely anytimes that you won't find people hanging out and having fun discussing classes or sports, etc.

GTCC is a phenomenal school that has allotted me great opportunities. The cost is affordable, teachers are accessible, and every class I took met my educational needs. Due to the small environment I was able to get the help that I needed and co-mingle with fellow classmates as well. Being a Sound Engineer major it took me a little longer than I expected to graduate due to the availability of certain courses. I'm an adult who maintained a job, so there were semesters I could only take 2 classes and being that everything wasn't offer each semester, that also put a delay in my graduation date. Nevertheless I succeeded in graduating with honors and now I'm moving forward to Stetson University in Spring 2014. My I'm extremely excited and look forward to receiving a bachelor's degree in Digital Arts/Sound Engineering. I'm thankful for all the professors who developed me during my time at GTCC. The department chair, professors, and ad-visors of the Entertainment Technology program at GTCC were amusing, encouraging, and exciting. The excitement and challenges in this program push me to always be prepared. I learned that when one has a passion for something they'll do the necessary work to gain knowledge of that very thing. My most memorable moments will forever be the time spent in the studios doing projects for the semester. Many mistakes were made, some grades were disliked, but I still learned and remember the information gain through each mistake and opportunity. To each prospective student, be prepared to advance in your academics no matter what program of study you choose. Strive to excel through every success, failure, and obstacle. Challenges make you better, so don't shy away from them. You won't know everything but that's what your professors are there for, utilize them! Give it all you have and your future will grant many opportunities to you!

Academics

Sound Engineering was interesting yet challenging for me. The class size was very small and actually the further I went alone in the program the class size decreased. Many people struggled with passing certain courses therefore we couldn't move ahead until other courses were passed. The workload was very slim, but midterms, practicals, and final exams were a bit overwhelming if I didn't have the information I needed to study. The professors feelings toward each student was if you really wanted to work in this field you would study without them telling you too. I believe I learned more from those methods versus a professor telling me to study or do an assignment. The Entertainment Technology program altogether is great! Each major (sound engineering, live sound, concert lighting, and music performance) were able collaborate with one another. The availability of talent in this program was amazing, all we had to do was coordinate our daily schedules. No matter the study of program everyone was required to take courses from each major to be more diverse in skills. Overall entertainment technology is a great program, you learn how to run consoles, mac computers, protools, and read music at an affordable price!

Campus Facilities & Safety

Gtcc has several campuses; I attended the Greensboro, Jamestown, and High Point campuses. They all are safe but the parking is not as great unless you have early classes. Campus police are very strict and they have no problem giving someone a ticket if rules or violated. Based on my experience they monitor the campus very well. There have been times I've misplaced items, and I could go directly to Campus Police, describe the item, and they have it in their possession. I'm very pleased with them and the atmosphere of the campus. I absolutely love the computer labs. Every now and again I'd see a few people escorted out due to improper behavior, but I've never experienced a problem when it came to utilizing a computer and doing my work. For a couple of semesters they allowed free printing, but I guess due to the wasting of paper they implemented the print cards. GTCC has a variety of organizations, such as Phi Theta Kappa, Who's Who Among College Students, Scholarship opportunities, and a list of others. I myself am involved in Phi Theta Kappa and Who's Who Among College Students. GTCC is very good at notifying students via email about the different activities going on on campus and in the community. That alone grant students volunteer hours and gives them a better shot at scholarships as well. Based on my experience this is a great place to pursue your education!
