Overall
UVa is an excellent school with a great campus and a true sense of history via Thomas Jefferson. It fits the needs of a wide-range students with its academic reach. Social life is greek-oriented and a conservative but there are many other options for those who seek it.
Academics
Your curriculum will be as challenging as you make it. The more difficult classes tend to be smaller with demanding on-hands professors. Entry classes can be big with little prof-student interaction. If you want to skate taking 'guts' you can, but if you wanted to do that you could just go to VA Tech.
College Life
While UVA is in the ACC there isn't a lot of fan passion around the programs compared to other schools - students seem content to party with friends/fraternities regardless of the outcome of the games. Charlottesville provides a nice cocoon from the "real" world but still offers enough to keep things interesting
