Academics Rating

Academics for Pre-Health Kids The pre-med (and other health professions) track here is AWESOME. Freshman year, there's a class just for the pre-health programs. They teach you the things you’ll need to do to get in to your professional school and have speakers from different fields tell you about their experiences. Junior or senior year, there is an MCAT (med school entrance exam) prep class to help you do as well as possible on the test. All along the way, there are faculty who know exactly what you need to do to get into med school and are eager to help you. They even give you step-by-step instructions for the application process. I graduated in 2013, and now I and many of my classmates are attending well-respected med schools around the country. Academics in General I felt as though the academics were at an appropriate level - I learned all the things I needed to pursue my life goals, but there were no classes that were crazy difficult. In general, the professors really want you to succeed. I wasn't buried in work, and there were no classes where everyone was struggling just to pass. The thing about Whitworth is that the professors are chosen for their ability to teach, not the grant money they'll bring in like at large research institutions. There are summer research programs to be had in various fields, but there are only a few spots open, so getting a position is a little competitive. Whitworth has a fall semester, Jan term, spring semester format. This means that there is a mini semester that last for just a month. You can take one class, go on a study abroad trip, or just take a long winter break. On that note, there is a huge variety of study abroad trips that a lot of people take part in. Classes for freshmen are usually around 50 students, but higher division classes can be anywhere from 25 to 3.
