Overall

Overall, Stetson University is a fantastic school with a beautiful campus and a high academic standard. All the faculty are more than qualified and are always available to guide students. Many professors are very complimentary when students perform well, which is the kind of encouragement students need from time to time. I really enjoy the small class sizes. The largest class I attended thus far consisted of around thirty-five students. In effect, professors are able to get to know each student by name and offer one-on-one attention when needed. This intimate setting is one of the aspects of the school that struck me the most and helped me decide to attend. The campus is fairly small, but students have access to all the same resources as students of larger universities. There are four different places to eat: the cafeteria which serves a wide variety of choices from day to day, a grill, bagel shop, and a coffee chop. The gymnasium is available with full equipment to allow students to stay active. The basketball arena and football field are within walking distance of all the dorms. The dorms are descent, much like the dorms of other universities. One great advantage of living on campus is the use of laundry machines gratis. It is very nice not having to keep track of quarters to use for each load of laundry. For all these reasons and more, I am extremely pleased with my decision to attend Stetson University.

Academics

The academics at Stetson University are of high quality. The coursework is very rigorous. Students must constantly think ahead to ensure the completion of every assignment, which is only expected by the faculty. This is especially true of the music department, which is one of the many programs that Stetson is renowned for. Music students are especially busy because, on top of all the regular homework, they must practice their instruments regularly and attend ensemble rehearsals, among other obligations. But the heavy workload makes it all the more rewarding when a student receives an outstanding grade in a class. The professors are always very approachable and helpful whenever students have questions. The class sizes are very small for a university, which allows teachers and students to get to know each other more personally.

College Life

Stetson University is located in the small of Deland, FL where community events are constantly happening. The downtown area right next to the university frequently hosts events such as art festivals, chili cook-offs, street parades, among other excitements that students enjoy attending. Stetson is home to a huge variety of clubs and organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Croquet Club, Chess Club, and "Hat Trick" which is a men's a cappella group. The athletics department is of high quality. The women's basketball team has won eleven conference games this season while only being defeated three times. Next year, Stetson's brand new football team will launch its first official season since 1956. Aside from sports, Stetson offers many more opportunities for students to be active on campus. Concerts held by the music department are always free for all Stetson students. The school also holds several culturally educational events that students can attend to earn credit. A month ago, I attended a talk by a man who was one of the Freedom Riders and who was a major participant in the Civil Rights movement. I found it very interesting and eye-opening.

I enjoy the school atmosphere and the teachers the most. When you arrive at stetson, right away you feel the learning environment and the wanting of students to do better. The feel of the town also adds to the college experience because at sporting events and everyday life one can see people from the town seeing the campus and they are very proud to have a good institue in the small towm of Deland. The teachers are also very smart and helpfull. Therefore, whenever one has a question or needs help with a subject, ones teacher is always available and wanting to help the student do a better job and succeed. To me it seems difficult to fail or do bad in a class at stetson because there is so much help offered at the school.

Academics

The classes at Stetson are also very good because of the great teachers. Each class is challenging, yet one is still able to do well if he/she does their part by studying the recommended material and keeps up with their everyday work. Compared to other universities, Stetson offers small classes where a student is able to ask questions and see the teacher after class or by appointment as needed.

College Life

There are a ton of clubs one can join at Stetson. There is also greek life, town events, sporting events and many other places for students to enjoy their time. As for partying and night life, there are some places to go,however, they are not very popular places.

The professors at stetson love their job. Every class me professors walk in with a smile and with great intusiasum about teaching at stetson, they take pride in teaching at this school. The greatest part is the small class sizes, the one on one attesion with the professor is priceless and leads to a better learning environment. I have to say the most memorable part of my freshman year was how friendly everyone was, the upperclassmen, freshman, and professors just made me fall in love with the school, although the course work is challenging, it'll be worth it just to call yourself a hatter.

Academics

The academics are challenging, but the professor help when ever needed. It really is a great learning environment. the workload isn't to bad and the professors are awesomesome of the best i'v ever met, and at the end the you'll be happy to have taken classes at stetson, becaust this school really does prepare you for the "real world."

College Life

Student life is great, everyone is always smiling and so friendly, it like something out of a movie. The people affiliated with greek life are the sweetest people, and they throw great parties. The best part is all of greek life gets along very well, the are not obligated to only find friends within there house, all of greeklife collaborates with one another in many events which is a very rare site, but stetson is a small school and it becomes a close knit community.

Stetson is a unique school. I am the first to admit that it's intimate nature is not for everyone. For me, it is perfect. This is such a small school and my recommendation is to really get to know your professors and classmates. Stetson has the type of professors that are there for you 23 hours a day! If you need help understanding something, just ask! A common concern is night life, greek life and what there is to do in such a small town. Once you get to school, I encourage you to make as many friends as you can and just start bumming around town. You will soon discover how much fun a small town can be.

Academics

In the first half of your degree, class size stays at about twenty students, sometimes less but hardly ever more. As you work your way to junior/senior year, as is true with most schools, class size becomes even smaller and can have as few as seven people in a class. Also, workload at Stetson is tremendous. You can expect to spend at least four hours outside of class every day on ONE class (if you want an A+). This leads to the next point that Stetson uses a +/- grading scale which some people hate but if you are goal-oriented it can really drive you in a good way!

College Life

Almost every Friday, the school puts on different activities like free movie nights, parties, etc. A huge plus for Stetson is that we have a ton of really interesting people who come and give presentations at our school. Stetson encourages diversity and because of this I have had the pleasure of hearing presentations from a multitude of people -- from famous adult film star Ron Jeremy and a pastor battling it out, to a women's rights activist.

Stetson University is a private university with rigorous academics, small classes, and individual assistance. It is a fantastic place to begin networking, gain a fantastic education, and grow. Stetson always allowed me to get in contact with someone with the answers instead of being routed through a chain of people to get a hold of. The University places great attention on the quality of academics and the professors always are willing to meet with you individually after class to go over the material again, discuss readings, or do whatever it takes to help you get a complete grasp on the material. Stetson also cares for each student individually as there are many programs set up to help students with each of their needs. For example, free counseling is available to all students, career counseling, tutoring, a writing center, and Guided Proactive Sessions (GPS) to Success where professors give lectures about how to improve study habits, increase the output of your efforts in school work and provide outlets for you to not only exert yourself mentally, but also physically and improve your health.

Academics

Stetson University has a variety of courses, excellent professors, well versed in their material, small class sizes, rigorous work that all combine to provide you with a comprehensive education. Classes generally cap at about thirty students in larger classes, and around eighteen in most classes. The professors are always willing to meet you during their required office hours or at another time that works for both student and professor. The college has many Media Specialists who are willing to work with you on any project to help you when you meet a road-block. SU also has a writing center, tutors available, Success coaches and enormous databases for you to use, all to help you achieve a significant education. Workloads vary depending on your courses, but every course promises to challenge you and allow you do perform better than before, enabling you for greater success with more tools and resources.

College Life

Student and Campus Life at Stetson University is great. The campus is constantly monitored, there are always activities to participate in, movie nights, Greek life, and opportunities galore. Practically weekly Hatter Productions sets up Movie Nights in various locations around campus that bring us together with popcorn, candy and soda to relax from the week. There are over 100 different clubs available at Stetson University, and if you still aren't satisfied with the selection, SU encourages you to make your own! With so many clubs operating, there is always an activity you may participate in. SU is also well-known for it's Winter Wonderland, where tons of snow are imported in and students have a chance to ice-skate, throw snowballs, enjoy and outdoor movie complete with hot cocoa all in the flip flop friendly environment of DeLand, Florida. The athletics at SU are significantly supported. This year SU began recruiting for it's returning football program. Already we have a competitive softball and baseball program, along with our fantastic rowing team. To compliment all of our athletes, SU also has a fantastic Health and Wellness location, the Hollis Center complete with weights, cardio machines, regular pool hours, and student-run classes like spinning, yoga, boot camp and spinning.

Stetson University is more than just a university. Stetson is a place that I am proud to call my home for the remaining three or so years of my studies. I truly enjoy the small class sizes and the relationships the students build with the professors. It is more than just a university to receive a degree, it is a place to build everlasting relationships. What I like the most about my university is that there are resources scattered all across campus and you just need to be willing to ask for help. As well, we are not charged for each individual page of printing we have while on campus. I just finished my freshman year and have made my mark on campus already. For any prospective students I suggest making connections early on in your career, talking to your professors about problems you may be having before the end of the semester comes near, and being involved in an organization- like Student Ambassadors or Greek Life.

Academics

Stetson University is rated third in the South. It really depends on ones major or minor in terms of the workload and class sizes. The normal class size is 11 students to one professor. A positive thing about Stetson is that 96% of the university is taught my professors who have earned their pHD, whereas on other universities the students are taught by a teaching assistant for the majority if not the entire year. Stetson is known for it's business, education, music, and law programs but it has many other opportunities such as: pre-med, biology, integrative health sciences, psychology, digital arts, history, etc. The professors are always available for assistance if needed. It is by far not an easy univeristy in terms of workload due to the academic prestige but with time and dedication it is possible to be successful at the university. Like I said, the Professors are normally understanding and willing to assist in any difficulties you may be faced with during the semester.

College Life

Stetson is an open campus, which means that people from the community are allowed to come on campus. Usually when parents find this out they are weary of these circumstances because DeLand does not always receive the greatest rep in the community but no fear because we have a 24/7 365 days a year Public Safety that patrols campus. On campus there are several blue light boxes that when pressed provides direct contact with the public safety office. If a student feels threatened at any hour of any day there will be a puclic safety officer at their location within minutes. I have not heard of anyone who has had to press these boxes but they are there if needed. There is ALWAYS something happening on campus. For the winter time we had 4 tons of snow brought in, a hot chocolate bar, artifical ice skating and a movie night. We regularly have pool movie nights, various cultural events with guest speakers from other universities, and a plethora of events hosted by the Greek Life to support there community service events. DeLand is a pretty small town but we are located on 30 mins from Daytona Beach and Orlando if a student is looking for more of a city atmosphere. Plus there are many interesting local places like- Downtown DeLand with boutiques, places to eat, and pottery shops, Blue Springs and DeLeon Springs, and many other nature oriented locations.

As a graduate from 2007 and a current employee working on an MBA, Stetson has been a staple in my life for over a decade now. The overall education I have received while here was first class and would not have traded it for the world. This university has a great balance of small classes and real world experiences that help separate it from your typical state or private school alternatives.

I am a student who thought they wanted to get as far away from home as possible, but I have had my eyes opened to a whole array of opportunities I can be afforded at such a wonderful school;Stetson. Academically it's a great environment to be able to explore intellectual pursuits of any kind, as well as it being a school that has a shifting culture that has emerged in the past few years.

Academics

I am interested in majoring in International Studies and minor in either political science or Humanities. The student faculty ratio is 12:1, which is something that's really important One of the things that really drew me into this school is the awesome Study Abroad programs that are offered.

College Life

Deland is a beautiful city and SU sits right within the down down which is walking distance from shops, restaurants and other fun activities. There are a lot of organizations and programs to partake in at Stetson (over 100 Clubs and Organizations) such as Bonner Scholars program and Oxfam, which are aimed towards community service and social work (But your free to start your own club if it's not offered already). The type of work that students are doing are resulting in meaningful solutions in the community.

Stetson University is a very personable school thats allows people to feel at home. Immersed in a small town environment, the campus is peaceful and full of activity. The best part of the infrastructure of the campus is the old style buildings in addition to the historic pat of campus. The school is also very welcoming and you fit in right away.

Academics

The classes are small and very individualistic styled. With a small class size, students and know their professors and also establish proactive relationships with their peers. Firstly, the perfect lcation in a warm zone is an important thing for a student coming from a country with very cold winter. Then, the beautiful environment and the warm and kind atmoshere Stetson creates had a great appeal to me. As well, I have done some research in order to know more about the school, and I felt it should be mine, I was attracted by it.

Academics

The school offers a big variety of programs. My program is very interesting, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it on school's web-site. The average class size is 17, which is the perfect balance in order to be work productively.

College Life

Stetson has over 120 student clubs and organizations and this number makes a good impression about their variety. That means that every student can find a place where he/she can do what he/she wants, can follow his/her dreams or find new interests and passions. As well, the internationally orionted university is a good place for every student to feel like home.

When I was researching colleges I wished to know the student to professor ratio. This fact alone will allow me to determine if the learning environment will best suit my individual needs. What stood out to me as far as academics were concerned is mostly if the college offered Sciences. Overall, my personal opinion of Stetson University is that it is a diverse school that encourages student to succeed in their endeavors not only by way of academics, but also in a community based program. Utilizing a technique such as applying your academics to society in accordance to its needs is an outstanding way that students can grasp the importance of the difference their education can make. I appreciate the fact that Stetson University is dedicated to keeping their ratio low for students to professors, thus creating more of an opportunity for students to succeed. One tip that I would give prospective students is to ask the staff what services are offered to reinforce their success in regards to their chosen degree plan.

Academics

Stetson University's classes/programs that are offered is overall beneficial to what this century needs, thus allowing students the opportunity to bring the best competition along with the know how to succeed. Professors are more than willing to see their students succeed; the professors realize that they are mentors to the students and the students are a reflection of them. The workload is enough for a student to prove their ability and tough enough to challenge the student in being able to realize they too can exceed their own personal limitations. The class sizes at Stetson University is better than perfect! Having smaller class sizes creates more of an opportunity for students to succeed.

College Life

The social atmosphere has something for each student while all along uniting the student body as one. The clubs and organizations help the students learn skills that will aid in their success. Campus safety is of utmost concern for all on campus. Weekend activities are offered to students that will support their studies and further their educational development.

Overall a great atmosphere. Everyone had just returned from spring break so they were all re-energized and ready to go, really showing off the best of how school would be. Also, with no football team at the time, they had their version of homecoming week going on so they had music blasting outside of the cafeteria, which was entertaining to watch people dance.

Academics

Great for business, biology, music, and law students. The class sizes are very manageable with the biggest class i know to be about 40-50 students with one teacher. The workload is demanding for 2 majors but for only one major it is very easy to get done with good time management.

College Life

It seemed like student life was very fun and diverse. Lots of inter murals going on, and with the older dorms being renovated, it was a little crowded, but the students were cool about it and knew it was for a better and more enjoyable stay in the older buildings. The student guide couldn't talk much about parties or hangouts for students with parents there, but with the beach right by it and Disney World 20 minutes away, I am sure there is alot going on in the nightlife.

I think that Stetson University is a great school. It is an opportunity for me to be apart of a beautiful and prestigious school, and I am very excited. I love the feeling of walking on to campus or into in office and you feel so welcomed. A tip for prospective students that I would give is to register for classes as soon as possible because with small class sizes they go out fast.

Academics

I have met a few of the professors at Stetson, and they seem very cool and chill. They are willing to work with you if you are willing to work with them. The workload isn't small but if with the help of the professors you can do it. Class sizes don't really exceed 30 people for most classes, which is good because you will be able to actually get to know your professors and your professors can actually get to know you.

College Life

The social life at Stetson is unbelievable. There are always things going on, its almost impossible to keep up. There are concerts, games, student parties, and the list can keep going. There are more then 15 NCAA Division 1 athletics at Stetson and I'm happy to say I am going to be apart of the upcoming football team.

I am transferring to Stetson as a Junior in the Fall. I have come full circle since I first visited the campus as a high school Junior. I play volleyball and went to their volleyball elite camp. I was on campus for a week and really enjoyed the campus and the small town feel that the town of Deland, Florida possesses. Now I have revisited the campus three years later and I still get the same positive feelings. The administration puts most of their focus on the academics. Learning in a safe and supported campus is their utmost goal and when on campus, you recognize this aspect. There are a lot of opportunities on campus and the student life activities keep the students engaged in a positive fashion. There are quite a few athletic teams that compete at high levels on this campus plus they have intramural sports as well. This upcoming year the university is beginning a football team and that is really exciting.

Academics

Because I am a prospective student that will begin classes in the Fall, I will have to answer this question from my visit and tour. The class sizes are smaller and the students have a one on one relationship with their professors. As our tour guide states, their professors want all students to prosper in the universities environment. The workload is difficult but it prepares the students for their future careers.

College Life

The atmosphere on campus is nice. The students seem to get along and be very supportive of each other. There are plenty of clubs and organizations on campus to keep the students engaged and there are many athletic teams to follow. Campus safety seems to be very important to the university and they have systems in place to ensure this.

One of the most memorable experiences from my tour of the Steston Universirt campus was the courtyard with all of the palm trees. Our tour guide mentioned that students hang hammocks between the palms where they proceed to lay and study, read, or just soak up the Florida sunshine.

Academics

Class sizes are small which provides an oppurtunity for the development of one-on-one relatinships with the professors. It gives the oppurtunity to move at the pace of the students in the class, and makes question-asking easy.

College Life

As far as clubs and sports go, you name it, Stetson has it. There is also oppurtunity to make new clubs, if at least 5 or 6 people are interested. While we were touring the fitness area, there was a work-out dance class going on that looked like a fun way to stay fit!

Stetson has the type of atmosphere you expect from a college in the movies. The buildings and campus are beautiful, and peaceful while still being full of life. I've always felt safe when walking around campus, and love how clean it's kept.

Academics

As a prospective student, I've only sat in on some of my sister's classes, but the atmosphere was wonderful. The classrooms and class sizes are small enough to where the professors can learn student's names, and have active discussions with them about their work. The professors seem to genuinely enjoy what they're teaching, and I've yet to know any current student complain that the workload was too large.

College Life

The social atmosphere seems to be perfectly balanced with academic life at Stetson. Notices of club and organization's activities are all around campus, but don't dominate it. The array of sports, clubs and organizations provide plenty of opportunities for a diverse social atmosphere.

I have recently submitted my decision to go to Stetson in the fall. All of the admissions and financial aid staff have been incredibly kind in helping me make this decision and make going to school there affordable for me. The campus is beautiful, and the city of DeLand seems very cozy and welcoming.

Academics

I have yet to attend a class at Stetson, but I have met and spoken to many alumni and current students who are incredibly pleased with their education there and have had much success in their careers because of it.

College Life

The social atmosphere seems very open and friendly, with lots of clubs and club sports for interacting and making friends with other students. One current student has told me that it is impossible to be bored because there is always something to do on campus.

The Campus has a very engaged environment. The staff and professors are always smiling and are eager to assist. The music program is like "the Julliard of the south" it is so intense and superior! The sports programs are also very impressive!

Academics

the workload is intense but the professors are there to assist you to make it seem much more easier then it actually is. the class size maximum is 13/1 which in my opinion is amazing! The professors work hard to create a wonderful experience.

College Life

Stetson University is probably one of the safest Universities in the south, there are at least one emergency phone in sight at all times, and the security will be at your side in less then a minute. the social atmosphere is beyond amazing, there is always something to do on campus ranging from fighting world hunger to intramural sports to the many festivals held in downtown, Deland!

I like the environment. Very positive. The campus is beautiful with an old school charm. The buildings are well preserved. I like the atheltics programs and the school facilities, from sports to the library.

Academics

I am only registered in the school. I have not started yet however I am looking to start with general studies and seek guidance on careers that are best suited for me. I have a passion for the English Language and Sports.

College Life

I have toured the campus twice and the atmosphere is very positive. The campus life appears very quiet which I like and gears a lot towards academics. I also check the future soccer field, the pool and gym and they are top of the line.
