Overall

Wichita State has a wide variety of activities and groups to be involved in. As a nursing student, I am in one building for all of my classes but feel very connected to the whole university. Recently, all eyes have been on WSU since the men's basketball team is doing so well this season. Hopefully with all of this attention, more people will see Wichita State as the great university it really is. Many of my most memorable experiences have come from different activities on campus. Convocation at the beginning of every school year is a great time to kick off the year and meet new people.

Academics

There are currently 58 students, myself included, in my nursing program. We are altogether in the lectures but split up into groups of approximately twenty for labs and clinicals. Wichita State truly has some of the best professors in the country. They are extremely supportive, not only with school work but outside life as well, and actually care for each of us. Clinicals are done at area hospitals and community health buildings. These are a great opportunity to get involved in the community and have a hands-on experience.

College Life

Wichita State has a variety of different clubs and organizations to be involved in. Kansas Association of Nursing Students, KANS for short, is the group I am most associated with. There is truly something for everyone. Safety is not an issue on campus. Even walking to my car in the dark, I have never felt unsafe for any reasons.

Overall

WSU is a great school for students who know what they want to major in, and for others who aren't quite sure what they're passion is yet. The advisers here are fantastic, and are at least willing to point you in the right direction. The classes here have great professors (right now my two favorite are my psychology professor and my Geology professor), and the teachers here are willing to talk after class with you if you are having problems. The student life here is also excellent, and the students here come from a variety of backgrounds. My main tip is: check for scholarships, and if you think there aren't any for you, KEEP LOOKING. There is a scholarship out there for anyone, and WSU lists a great many scholarships on their website.

Academics

WSU offers classes on everything from theater to aerospace engineering. It really is a college for all. The class sizes are smaller than most of my high school classes were (as in, they're under 30 people) and the workload is decent. If you study, work hard, pay attention in the class, and do the work, you'll be just fine. The classes here are challenging enough to not be boring, but their not too difficult that you'll want to pull out your hair at the end of the day.

College Life

The students here are nice and very accepting. I can't really say much about the activities right now, because I'm going only to the West Campus and not the main campus, but from what I know they offer a lot of student activities on the weekends and weekdays. There are students groups and clubs for everyone. They even had a teddy bear (well, actually, monkey) making workshop for free! It's nice, after being in high school, to finally come to a place where there is something for everyone.

Wichita State University is a friendly school, there are several clubs to join and interact with students as well as ways to get involved in community service. I enjoy going to the RSC, Rhatigan Student Center, because of all the booths student setup, which generally have very informative information as well as items to buy such as jewelry and/or handmade "knick-knacks". One memorable experience I have at the RSC was when the WSU bookstore was giving a fashion show of all their newest clothing in the store, I found it to be a neat way of encouraging people to buy their clothes as well as being very entertaining. One tip I find most important is to go to your classes early not only because it is good to be on time but it is extremely hard to find parking right when class startes; its always important to be prepared.

Academics

Wichita State University has several different programs to choose from, I'm mostly aware of the art department. The Art department at WSU is excellent, all the professors are supportive and generally have your goals in mind when they advise you. The workload is up to you, depending on how many classes you take and how you manage your time properly. Wichita State University has a wide range of class size, I have been in a class with thirty people and I have been in a class with sixty or more, it just depends on the class you need to take.

College Life

Wichita State University has many clubs and organizations to choose from as well as activites to attend. There is always something fun going on at WSU. As far as campus safety goes, at almost ever corner there is a safety call center that when pushed alerts the campus police to the location; the parking lots are pretty well lite as well. The athletic department is "okay" to put it mildly, we have dance classes, excerise classes, swim classes, and a basketball team but we do not have a football team which is a real bummer hopefully, one day we will get our football team back. Go Shockers!

I love how nice the people are on campus, including students and staff. I think there needs to be crosswalk sings so you can know where crosswalks are, especially around corners. I most like the student center, it is well rounded and perfect for students.

Academics

Work load isn't too much but it is enough to keep you busy. Professors are great, and I wouldn't know class sizes because I am taking online classes. There is a wide variety of classes and programs allowing for a wide variety of people on campus.

College Life

Atmosphere is great and I feel safe on campus, but I have not done much more on campus to leave feed back. I like that they have often activities to keep the students together and to allow people to intermingle and to get to know other students on campus that are not in their major.

I love Wichita State. The best college memories that I have are from different events that have happened on campus. My freshman year was full of these fun events. Whether it was dressing up in full body black spandex suits for basketball games, or playing Humans vs. Zombies in a campus wide quest to survive, I had a year that I will never forget. There were some long nights of studying, and some painful English essays to write, but it was all worth it because of the friends and memories that I made.

Academics

I am a student in the Athletic Training program here at Wichita State. I am a year and a half in to the program and could not be more pleased. The program has given me numerous opportunities to learn about the field of study in a very hand-on way. Starting my freshman year, I was given the opportunity to work with certified athletic trainers and study in the training facility. Now as a sophomore, I can begin training my skills to become more proficient. The classes are small and personalized. Everyone who is in the program and is willing to put in the time is learning the material and becoming excellent athletic trainers.

College Life

Get involved. Involvement in organizations is the best, and possibly only, way to enjoy the college life at Wichita State University. The campus has a lot of students who live off campus and are not involved, but the students who are involved, are great people and love this school. I took the time to get involved in several student organizations, and have become a better person beacause of it. I have met great people, learned about how great of a school Wichita State is, and become a larger part of the school. I am involved in the Catholic Newman Center, the Athletic Training Student Association, Bacon Tuesday, Shockers Forever, and Shocker Maniacs. I also go to many of the intermural events and participate in Student Activities Council events. Through involvement in organizations, I have become united to this school.

Well I am a new student to Wichita State University this semester overall I just really like WSU. I hope to be making memorable experiences soon. The campus is a very nice campus, I personally feel like there is a lot going on on campus. The RSC is a great place to eat lunch or meet up with people between classes

Academics

I am an accounting major, so far I have only had two accounting professors and I really like Michael Flores and my other accounting professor Pat O'Sullivan not so much, the work is medium to large, the class sizes about 15 to 25. Overall I really like the accounting, it's pushed me to do my best and I really enjoy it.

College Life

Its Wichita, Kansas is just isn't much to do here. There are a few clubs downtown. Hookah bars on the east and west side of Wichita, we have a world class IMAX theater here in Wichita. There are some good shopping spots on the east and west side of Wichita. There is final Friday the last Friday of every month the art galleries are open for free downtown.

Wichita State University has been an overall great experience this first semester. I have enjoyed seeing the diversity on campus as well as how everyone is polite and welcomes you to the city. As a first time experience in a large city I believe any student who is willing to try something new will enjoy this atmosphere.

Academics

I am currently enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program and many of the classes are a workload but I manage to put all my effort into studying. The classes are a fair size with about 30 girls and the classrooms are a bit tight but it works and we enjoy doing activities together.

College Life

There are many reasons why I chose to come to Wichita State University, several of the reasons include the organizations. There are many organizations that help you as a student decide the career path that suits you as an individual as well as clubs. The social atmosphere is quite diverse, everyone you see is friendly and willing to answer any questions one might have. There are many weekend activities to attend and activities to do throughout the week such as athletic games, and activities planned for the year.

Overall, WSU is a great college for someone who is trying to avoid distractions. Wichita does not have a great night life and hence it is easier for students not to get distracted. The thing I like most about WSU is that it has a small and a very helpful community. It is easy to get around and there are always tons of events on campus. A tip for new students - try to be active on campus, stay connected and build a good network. It helps.

Academics

I got my bachelor's degree in Aerospace and the maximum students I had in any class was 50. You get enough time with your professor if you have questions. The class really depends on the professor and how enthusiastic he/ she is about the subject. The aerospace department at WSU is known to have the best faculty members. The workload is average.

College Life

There are hundreds of clubs and organizations at WSU and they fit into many different genres. You can easily find one that interests you. Campus safety is very good as well with a police station on campus and cops constantly patrolling the university. There are also emergency posts with bright blue lights all around campus. WSU also has a free Safe Riders service for students to promote "Don't drink and Drive". Athletics department is average. WSU has a great men's basketball team and women's volleyball team.

Overall

Overall, I think Wichita State University's campus is beautiful. I feel as though it is always well kept and looks very nice, especially now that the weather is getting colder and the trees are changing. I feel like they really try to keep their students involved and always have opportunities available for whoever chooses to seek them. The school stands behind it's students and athletes, and does a good job keeping everyone updated on current events and news. I think my most memorable experience is the Dental Hygiene program that I am currently in right now. I've met lots of new people, potentially life long friends, and I am learning a ton which will help me in my future career as a hygienist. The best tip I think I could give to a prospective student would be to get involved! You won't regret it.

Academics

I think Wichita States classes are all good classes and the college gives you a lot of options in classes to choose from. I have enjoyed all my professors and I have never felt that I couldn't talk to any of them if I needed a little extra help in something. I think the college provides a numerous amount of programs to its students and all of the programs are good programs to be in. Class sizes will vary depending on the class; for example more of the general education classes will be much bigger, around 100 students or so, and the more program specific classes would be smaller. Personally, my work load was never anything I couldn't handle, but I will admit that now that I am in the Dental Hygiene program my work load has increased; but that was expected.

College Life

The social atmosphere is ideal in my opinion. You can usually always find some kind of little event going on at the Student Center, and the campus is big enought that you could meet people just walking to class! The school is good about always having fliers posted and sending emails about events going on around the campus. There are numerous clubs and organizations at Wichita State and each and every student is encouraged to join one or be a part of something. Our athletic department has been doing very well lately and the students seem to always be involved at the games, which makes them that much better to attend and be a part of. Wichita State also has a lot of alumni and outside supporters, which I think is very cool. It's good to know your college has a numerous amount of qualities that everyone can enjoy.

Overall, Wichita State University is a good school. The courses are challenging, the professors are very nice. The campus is a beautiful place, especially in the spring. The campus itself is a has a great atmosphere to it. The best aspect of the school is that everything is available to you on campus. However, the area around the campus isn't the best. Prospective students should visit Wichita State in order to get a feel for the campus and the university itself.

Academics

Wichita State University has a wide variety of programs. I am a music student, so I am most familiar with that aspect of the school. The class sizes are generally small. Most of my general education courses have 30-40 and my music classes generally have 20-30 students in them. The professors are very helpful, especially in the music department. They are very responsive to email. The workload is decent. I enjoy being busy so I took 18 credit hours, so I have a heavy workload. Overall, the academics at Wichita State are excellent.

College Life

The social atmosphere at this campus is average. There is not much of a night life around campus, but students can go off campus and find things to do. There are many clubs at Wichita State. Greek life is very prominent here. Almost everyone I know is in a fraternity or sorority. There are a few respected organizations around campus. The safety of the campus is pretty good. There is a police station at two ends of the campus and there are emergency towers located around the campus. Athletics are okay. Shocker volleyball and basketball seem to be the most popular sports here. There is no football team. Weekends here can get a little boring. There are more things to do off campus on weekends usually. Not much weekend opportunities for social events at Wichita State.
