Reviews for Brookdale Community College
Overall, Brookdale is a good starting point to further your education if, like I was, you aren't sure what direction you'd like to go in. It's not too far from home, and the campus is easy to navigate. I feel very comfortable when I'm in class or studying in the library. It's also nice to see some familiar faces now and then. The students are generally nice, as are most of the teachers.
The Biology program at Brookdale is great, I've gotten to take classes like Vertebrate and Invertebrate Zoology, where we learn all about the anatomies of several different kinds of animals, and study models and dissections. In my experience, the class sizes are generally 20-something students or less, so it's not too distracting or busy. The workload varies from class to class. In some classes there might be a lot of homework and projects, in others you might only have tests and a paper. Generally you aren't overloaded with work, but it does depend on the classes you take. Most of the professors here are very nice and really want to help you do well in their classes. I have had professors that I didn't like, of course, whether it was due to their attitude or their ability to teach. I had to drop a Chemistry course last semester because I just wasn't understanding the material the way the professor was presenting it. I am currently re-taking the course with a different professor, and I'm doing much better.
Campus Facilities & Safety
The Brookdale campus is actually quite pretty. There are woods running along the side, and it gives the campus a very peaceful atmosphere. I like to look around and admire the foliage in the fall, and the animals in the spring. The library is a great place to sit and study, or to simply relax after a long day of classes. I spend a lot of time on my computer in the library, so it's nice to have a quiet place to do whatever I need to do. The worst thing about Brookdale is probably the parking. To put it simply: there isn't enough parking. The parking lots are oddly shaped and difficult to maneuver around, and they're not always marked properly, so giving directions to someone is a nightmare. If you don't get to school early enough, you won't find a close parking spot and you'll have to park a good distance away, which is a drag. As far as campus safety goes, I've heard about people being stalked, and I've seen police dogs on campus, so I guess they're doing their job. One rule I wish they would enforce is the "No smoking on campus" rule, because students literally smoke right by the air intake areas, even though there are signs that clearly say not to, and I don't appreciate breathing in smoke-filled air.
At the start I was impressed with my area community college, it already having outstanding academic credentials in our state/country. The fact that it was readily accessible, conveniently located and affordable priced made it my number one choice.
I have always maintained a steadfast course attending this school being careful not to overload my schedule. My workload has been only four accredited courses a semester, maintaining the minimum credits to qualify as a full time student, which ensures my academic progress stays satisfactory.
Campus Facilities & Safety
I absolutely love the atmosphere; Lincroft, NJ is a beautiful campus. If I have one complaint it remains that the overall college facilities are not maintained appropriately; cleanliness and capital improvement updates to the buildings/technology.
