Love it here. I transferred here from a smaller school in Central MI. Wayne State is awesome, great class size, good resources for students. I do have to say that the registrar and admissions offices are VERY slow and can take forever to navigate through. It never seems like there are enough people in their office, this has been my complaint wit them for the last couple years.

Academics

I enjoy interacting with the instructors who always make themselves available via office hours, email and after class. Since I am a business major, I am always working on group projects, which can be great and annoying when you have a slacker member in the group.

College Life

Studying is important wherever you go, if you want to be one step ahead of the curve. I love that they always have the pre-requisite for my major available year round, in the event that anyone wanted to take some summer classes, they are there. Wayne State is in downtown Detroit, the area itself is well lit, but the surrounding areas can get sketchy.

Wayne State University is a fanatastic school to study Art at. It has a very strong history of local artists being associated as both former students, and many as current faculty. The history of the city of Detroit offers very fertile themes to draw upon when developing experience as an artist. There are many oppurtunities for artists to show work at smaller galleries located in the city and a vibrant fun community that supports the this. One of the little known jewels of living in Detroit is its close proximity to Canada. A five minute drive across the Detroit river and you are there. It provides a non-american perspective i found interesting when i when i wanted a quick change from the hum-drum. the only real advice i have for a prospective student is to make sure you know how you are going to pay for everything in advance. i found myself having to scramble to pay tuition several times and it was worrisome. also, make sure you understand exactly how much money you will be expected to pay back when engaged in loans... good luck with that!

Academics

The program i was involved in was a Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Digital Media. Most of these Art type classes are smaller than regular Associate lecture courses that could have large lecture portions, (200 or so students each lecture) and smaller accompanying labs like you would find in any typical University setting. The workload is really as difficult or easy as you want to make it. I definately had some semesters where i probably took too many credits and others where i took fewer because i was working a lot.

College Life

My social activities centered around showing and viewing art in the city. It is a very active community and a lot of fun. One of the great winter acivities is to attend the Detroit Film Theatre and watch a lot of non mainstream art type films. several times directors came o speak and show their films there. There are also many bars, and local bands and venues to see live music at.

Wayne State was very insightful. I attended their Farmington Hills campus and took a few finance courses in between finishing my Bachelors degree. The whole application process was fast, efficient and pretty darn easy to go through. The instructor that I was was a professional in the Finance industry and he was very helpful.

Academics

Work load was pretty intense, well at least it was from my Professor....although Finance classes are always very engaging. It was easy to attend office hours and get responses in a timely manner. The individuals in my course werevery friendly, which made it easy to engage in study groups. Parking and safety at the Farmington Hills location was easy and safe.

College Life

Quiet and safe at the downtown location during the weekend. Library is well lit and very large, plenty of space to sprawl out and get all of your work done. Although I was not very involved in the Greek life at Wayne State, they often had lots of events around the campus.

Let's get this straight. I think Wayne is a good university. In my experience, it's probably one of the most underrated universities in Michigan. A lot of that comes from the fact that a) it's a commuter school, b) it doesn't have the word 'Michigan' in the title, and c) it's located in scary ole' Detroit. I attended for a Master degree.

Academics

I can say that I'm a fan of the social sciences department; WSU offers degree programs that compete with the ivy league schools (For example: take a look at how many schools in the country offer a degree in "business anthropology" and you'll get what I mean.). I have a really close friend in the Psychology CASPAL program, and she has nothing but great things to say. (e.g., social science rocks. )

College Life

The biggest problem with WSU is the reputation (or lack of it) nationally. It just doesn't have the prestige of a college with a good football team like U-M. Unfortunately a lot of people associate sports prominence with quality of education. Locally though, I don't think any corporation, law firm, etc doubts the quality of the school's graduates. I recommend that anyone interested in a cost effective quality education over big name campus glory seriously consider wayne state as an extremely viable option.

Overall

The school has a lot of historical buildings and I have many friends who have graduated from WSU. As a prospective student myself I do not know much about this school other than the success rate after graduation is impecable and the student life while attending this school is fabulous!! I can not wait to begin my journey as a future Warrior!

Academics

I have heard amazing things about the professors at Wayne State. Currently I am thinking about pursuing a Bachelors degree in fine arts (Theater) and double majoring in social work. I have heard only good things about many of these teachers.

College Life

WSU has so many social clubs and weekend activities. The plays that the theater department puts on have all been spectacular, and the social atmosphere is one that I have only dreamed about. As far as I know campus safety is right where they need to be. A friend of mine got mugged just off campus and security was right there to help.

Overall

Many family members say that they had a an overall great experience at this school and highly recommend it.

Academics

They have a large variety to choose from, but I am going in to the medical area, this will be less expensive then U of M.

College Life

Don't really plan on it at this point.
