It looks to me like some of the reviews above were written by staff. Overall, it is a nice new campus, people are friendly although a lot of them seem lost when you have questions. The financial aid office has for all 6 semesters I have been here had some excuse about FAFSA being delayed. Our books are expensive and required, it seems like their abusing the system by not allowing us another avenue of receiving our payments. Obviously your third party is not efficient if you have delay us by 2 months every semester.

Academics

Most of the professors are great, class availability is really, really poor

Campus Facilities & Safety

A few people were attacked on campus a while back. I always park close to my class, its is better lit in most places now which is very nice.

The best word I can use to describe my school is support. I've been attending Hartnell for 2 years now and since my first semester I felt like I already fit in. After my first day, just by mentioning my major, I was introduced to a long list of students and teachers that I should know to help me with anything from tutoring to transfer advise, even career options. I was even refereed to this site by another student who recommended I seek additional financial help due to my current situation.Once you find what you want to do with your life, you have a close nit of people all there to back you up and help you along the way. Our classes are difficult but we feed off each others motivation and help each other when necessary so we can all succeed together. Even the teachers and faculty make themselves available for you whenever you need their help. Hartnell's friendly staff have inspired me to pick a career choice, a school choice to transfer to, they update me with emails every day on scholarships and internships available. I've never met a bigger close group of people that I can rely on for advise and who truly wants nothing more than to see their students succeed and advance to the next step in life. They are our counselors, our advisers, and our family.

Academics

The classes I'm currently taking are upper division courses in Physics, Calculus, Computer programming and engineering. The classes are amazing just like the teachers who teach them. You cannot help but be fueled by their excitement in teaching something that they love. My Differential Equations teacher for instance, always refers to his equations as beautiful, in high school I would have considered that ridiculous but now that I'm trying these problems and understanding them, I couldn't agree more. The workload is fair, challenging, but nothing more than you can handle. The class size is maybe a bit larger than you would expect. The one difficulty is the amount of student all trying to get into classes that only have one teacher available for them. For instance my computer science class has fifty something kids. Administrators had to search for a bigger classroom to accommodate us all. My physics classes have over forty people as well. In my opinion, as long as the teachers are alright with taking on so many people, I'm alright learning with them.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere attends to all of the students within it. There is plenty of security, which is unfortunate if your parked without a parking permit, but they do they do their jobs as required. They have emergency posts where if you press the emergency button, you will have a security guard to that location in under a minute or two tops. They've tested it with a security guard who I know personally, that's how I know. Parking is never an issue if you have a permit. There is always available parking near most of the classrooms. There are several computer labs open for everyone daily. Tutoring centers are the best if help in your classes is what your looking for. We have a large room conveniently located in our library where we have student tutors around the clock available to help anyone looking for it. We have S.I.'s for the classes that need it most and they are all very knowledgeable in the subjects that they are teaching. We have several clubs here that I'm, along with a lot of other students like me are apart of including, the physics club, the engineering club, the math engineering science achievement (MESA) program, the science technology engineering and math (STEM) program. All these clubs have at least thirty members, all dedicated and motivated to their majors. The buildings are always nice and provide a great learning atmosphere.

This school is wonderful. In recent years this school has become self-help. No more waiting in long lines at admissions and records. When I do have to go in for financial aid the staff is polite and always willing to help. Hartnell is a wonderful college in my opinion.

Academics

I am a science major and I have never had any trouble getting into a class. Hartnell offers many programs associate programs and associate transfer programs. The instructors at Hartnell are awesome. They are committed and helpful to students. If one on one is needed they will help. Hartnell's faculty is all about success and they are definitely invested in student's success.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus atmosphere is well kept. Our computer labs are very neat and up to date. The campus recently had some new building put up and they are nice and high tech. There are many clubs on campus all invested in community out reach and success. Our campus has a parking structure that once charged $1.00 a day to park now $2.00. If one is not lazy though, they can park off campus for free. Parking is always easy to find off campus. Our campus is quite secure since we do have roaming guards during and after hours of campus operation but that does not mean crime is eliminated 100%. Hartnell is located in a violent city and there has been crime on campus but our administration cares about us so after the incident blue emergency phone booths were installed on campus. Overall, Hartnell is a great college!

I believe that Hartnell has an overall goal to obtaining a successful rate of Transfer Students to four year universities and graduating. I am older than most students on my classes and find that it is sometimes more difficult for the younger students (fresh out of high school) to understand how successful they an be themselves if they let it. Hartnell College is not a high school. Most of the Staff that I have encountered all have extremely high expectations. Though I may have never attended an actual university I know that Hartnell is in no comparison, and in fact is exceptional. The resources provided to many different demographics of students, whether it be the programs offered for assistance like the EOPS, or even the tutoring center is just wonderful.

Academics

The classes and programs offered to assist students towards their Associates degree are challenging and enlightening. However, I would find that if there were more offered, students would be able to transfer or graduate sooner than a 2 year program. Being the age I am, makes it more easier for me to get along well with my professors, only because it seems we are on the same wave length. I may not have the knowledge and educational background they do, but when one is able to communicate with their teacher on a human level. Depending on the class the workloads can be extremely difficult, especially when you are taking many units. The class sizes seem to be just fine, if they are a lot of students and the learning atmosphere is harder because of this, I find that within the first few weeks the class size dwindles down. I do have one problem though. Last semester, I was in the luck of a drawing to get into this Business-5/Speech-5- also known as Communication in the workplace. This class is usually a main requirement for transfer students and Hartnell only offered it one semester, and as one class, one professor. There were many other students who needed just that one class to transfer for the following semester and were not able to get in. It would have been most fortunate if there was more than one of these high demand classes offered.

Campus Facilities & Safety

There are many programs at Hartnell that are top of the line. I have found that the scholarship center and EOPS/Cal-Works programs are the most helpful. Fellow students that I have gotten to know that have certain disability needs and have use of this department is exceptional. The many resources such as the research department in the Library, using the off campus online Library resources, the tutoring center and the labs for computer lab classes are most exceptional because it gives a different way of learning for those who have trouble in a lecture class. I love the campus atmosphere. The student lounge is comfortable and having the availability to use the sources of the Cafeteria and using the WIFI set up to do your homework is most advantageous.

Hartnell college has been an amazing adventure. Hartnell is the perfect place to prepare you for your future goals, and it's also a great place to prepare yourself for any future transferred. my goal is to obtain a masters degree in nursing and I chose Hartnell to help me prepare for the next step which is to transfer into a four year university. Hartnell has a tutoring program in the annex and the tutors there are amazing always willing to help and they make sure that before you leave you understand the material perfectly.

Academics

My major is nursing my classes are extremely intense and the professors know that, so they make class fun and stress free by showing you different study methods and teaching class in professional matter, that not only allow you to learn but also succeed in class. The one thing I really like about the instructors at Hartnell is that you can always ask for help and not feel uncomfortable about it. they love it when the students ask for help. since I am a full time student my workload is a lot having 18 units in one semester seems like a lot but Hartnell makes it simple because they offer many services to the students that allow me to accomplish all my goals.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Hartnell's environmental is amazing all the student, staff, and faculty are nice people. parking facility's are always kept clean and supervised by campus security. every where you go on campus you run into campus security and they are very friendly. the computer rooms are very nice and high tech. I just cant express my self more about how nice and safe Hartnell college is. My children will begin to attend in the summer of 2013. I know that they are safe attending Hartnell.

My overall for this college would be that its a great college to attend there are a variety of classes to pick from that are transferable courses. I really like the the fact that there is free tuition available to anyone at the library. My tips would be not to ever miss a deadline because you will be dropped from your classes.

Academics

One of the best part from Hartnell College are the professors they are really great at teaching and each one of them have they're own particular way of teaching. For instance my Eng teacher Rene Nelson bases her lectures mostly from videos and examples. This fits perfect for me because I am a visual learner. She also does different types of learning for people who are audio or Kinesthetic learners they vary. Class sizes are in a ratio of 1:40 but most teachers offer tutoring if needed which is available to any student.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus atmosphere is really lay back most people there are really friendly. Something I really like is that Hartnell College offers lots of jobs on campus for students who need one. On the bosses are really flexible with the schedule because they understnad that you are a student. Something Hartnell College really has an advantage from other Colleges is that they just build a brand new library which has hundreds on computers as well as books. We also have a brand new parking garage which is extremely close from the classes. Parking will never be the reason why someone would be late to class. For our safety at the beginning of each semester the professors give all the students the number of the campus safety in case of an emergency most students have it in there contacts.

Overall, Hartnell is not a bad school. People say that it is just like another high school, but it really isn't. I came to Hartnell thinking that I am not really going to learn much. Though in reality I have learned a lot, subjects that I didn't have a clue about, such as Political Science, Psychology, Music Appreciation, and Astronomy. My tip is that take as many classes as you can, 12 units which is 4 classes wasn't enough. In high school we take 6 classes the entire week, that is why I take 6 classes a semester. It is not much because it is only 3 days out of the week! I am going to be finished with my AA with transfer my Fall semester, it only takes 1 year and a half to finish!

Academics

The class sizes are about 45 students in a class. Even with that our professors interact with most of the students. When I get homework, it is a lot of homework, but I have a day extra to get it done so it is not bad.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus atmosphere is really mellow. Our facilities are always clean. I struggle to find parking because even with the 3 story parking structure, parking spaces are hard to find. Our library is new, and updated. The staff and the resources are very helpful.

Overall, I see hartnell as a community college that has given me the opportunity to receive a higher education. What I liked the most is that everyone at campus is willing to help me achieve my goals. I was able to register as an AB540 srudent which gives me the opportunity to pay in-state tuition. My memorable experience is that i got the opportunity to be a part of a music club that accepted my idea of creating a Ballet Folklorico dance group with it. A tip for prospective students is to always ask questions and if you are too shy just reference the Student catalog for any information you need.

Academics

My classes are very interesting and there is always something new to learn everyday. My professors are very flexible and are always there when I need help or don't understand something. I believe the workload is fair because it will will prepare me in the long run for when i attend a University. The class sizes are good enough. I have not seen students standing up or sharing seats with someone. Overall, in this college i have meet a variety of different teachers with different educational backgrounds that have helped me achieve outstanding grades and new knowledge.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The atmosphere feels very safe. The library is full of cumputers, books, and ofcourse librarians who are there to help anyone out. The parking fare is cheap and very affordable. The parking garage has three floors so there is enough of parkings for everyone. The campus safety is excellent and i feel relaxed most of the time because of it. Overall, all the school's facilities are big enough and safe enough for everyone.

Hartnell College is a great community college. The teachers are a good and most students are serious about their future. What I like most about Hartnell College are the teachers. In my experience, the teachers are supportive and available to ensure student success. I have too many memorable experiences to name but I would like to advice protective students; if you put in the work, you will reap the rewards.

Academics

The school does its best to provide classes needed to complete the many programs offered on campus and online. The professors are committed to the students and are available to ensure student success. The workload varies depending on the classes that one takes. The class size is a bit large and the school could definitely make improvements.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The campus atmosphere is fun, there are many activities going on throughout the school year. The facilities are average, but some buildings are new and those facilities are great. I can't comment on the computer labs since I've never visited that area of the school. There are many school organizations and the parking is ample. The campus does have security during school hours and I believe after as well. I always feel safe at Hartnell College.

I love Hartnell College. I started attending not sure what I wanted to go to school for. After taking a couple of classes I quickly realized that nursing was my passion. I loved the fact that Hartnell was always so organized and on top of things. Everything is very structured.

Academics

Hartnell has always offered all the classes I needed and at a variety of different times. My Professors will always stand out in my mind because they always took the extra time to explain things. Although the Science classes where held in big lecture halls u still got the one on one time you needed in your lab classes.

Campus Facilities & Safety

A few years ago parking was a little hard to find. But now that Hartnell has built on to their campus I have not had a problem. The campus is always well maintained. Computer lab access is always available.
