I think UVI is a great school. Especially for those choosing nursing as a career! What I like most is the support I receive from my nursing advisor! From the time I started UVI, the nursing school staff has been there to help me through everything.

Academics

Well, UVI's class rooms are air conditioned and comfortable. The student teacher ratio is perfect. All my professors knew my name, so you know you won't get lost in a crowd of students. All my professors were great at explaining the material. You can choose the amount of classes you take, so the work load is based on your preference. For example, this semester I took biology, I know biology is an intense class, so I only took one other class. This helped to minimize my work load, so I can have more time to study for Biology. As I stated early, the nursing school staff is great. They are always there to help and answer questions when you need it. I just wish UVI could get more staff for the nursing program, so there could be more classes available year round.

College Life

There is campus security driving around campus all day, so it's helps you to feel safe. Campus activities are not applicable to me. I am very busy, I take classes and go. There's a bulletin that's always updated on campus, so you can get an update on upcoming events and activities. UVI is also very affordable, and there is financial aid available.

This school is awesome. Beautiful view. Is located on the beach for snorkeling and diving classes. This campus is packed with culture. And has amazing teachers especially in the math department. There are many opportunities for anyone who attends this school.

Academics

The classes are are small enough for every student to be heard. Workload isn't bad. I work 4 jobs and still have time to go to school and be on time with my homework. Teachers are flexible to your needs.

College Life

Campus life is excellent! There is always something to do. They have parties at least 3 times a week. Great athletic programs. The campus is very diverse. There is ample security and apart from being located on a beach, it is also attached to a huge golf course, tennis court, and soccer field! There is also school transportation and dollar rides to town. I LOVE THIS SCHOOL!

The worse, unsafe, unorginized, and distguisting school EVER! The secuirity of the housing is completley intolerable. Plenty of time I have woken up to screams, and there has been numerous accounts of domestic violence on campus. The food is disguisting; I saw a bug actually craw out of another students plate of pasta. Better love un cooked chicken and rice. Nobody shows up on time took work. I could go on and on but im not. DO NOT GO HERE!

The University of the Virgin Islands is a diverse school that allows you to study and major in anything you desire. I remember one time i had toured the school with my group the teachers care about the students by a distance meaning they would give their all, but you would have to pitch in by doing most of the work.

Academics

The classes hold the maximum of 15 students depending on the field of work and there are some teachers that allow you to take your work and leave. Most of the teachers tell you what the assignments is and when is its due date and leave you to start the assignment on your own. U.V.I offers 43 academic programs including nine associate, 27 bachelor and seven graduate degrees through five schools and colleges: Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Nursing, and Science and Mathematics. Each school and college is headed by a Dean who reports directly to the Provost. Classes are offered in the fall, spring, and summer. Academic advising and learning assistance including tutoring and supplemental instruction are available in U.V.I’s Center for Student Success. Students enrolled at the University of the Virgin Islands (U.V.I) are assumed to be of good moral character and are expected to exhibit acceptable standards of conduct both on and off campus. The policies and regulations of the University are based on the expectations that students will be responsible for their own behavior during their years at the University. In all cases, it is expected that students will be governed by a respect for the rights of others and for the commonly accepted standards and morals of our society. Thus, the University’s Student Code of Conduct is designed not only to maintain order but also to foster positive student development at U.V.I by establishing behavioral standards conducive to a higher educational learning environment. The goals of the Student Code are to maintain order and to ensure the freedom, due process, and privacy of all members of the U.V.I community; to maintain a way of life that is physically and psychologically healthy; and to provide an atmosphere in which students can achieve their educational objectives.

College Life

The students get along without any trouble and there are many groups to enter such as the sororities and the athletics rate tend to be the highest when it comes to basketball. Most schools have fun activities so does U.V.I.( University of the Virgin Islands), I've never seen a ROTC program for most colleges. U.V.I has a ROTC program that gets the young cadets ready and fit for the army. The campus has a golf course, tennis courts, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, and baseball and soccer fields. The University also has beautiful Brewers Bay Beach on campus for swimming and water sports. The Sports and Fitness Center features over 64,000 square feet and seats up to 3,500, depending on the event. This university has its own cafeteria that serves mostly cooked foods not any junk food or fried foods and if you have a feeling for as little snack there are a couple of snack and soda machines on campus. The book store is very useful and enjoyable, it is open Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The purpose of residence life on The University of the Virgin Islands is to promote community development and personal growth within the context of academic achievement. In choosing to live on campus, a student-resident commits to participating as a positive citizen in an educational community; a community characterized by respect, responsibility, and opportunity. The University, through its various components, offers avenues for student expression and involvement from the arts to athletics. Every full-time student is encouraged to join at least one club, committee or organization, attend and support programs and activities sponsored by Student Affairs, and equally as important, support programs planned by fellow students and the Student Government Association. In the year of 2013 U.V.I had its annual carnival. Members of the U.V.I community as well as the general public are invited to join the U.V.I 2013 Carnival troupe which will participate in the St. Thomas Carnival's Adults Parade. This year UVI highlights and promotes the success of the University through a tropical scene. Carnival Theme: “U.V.I Celebrates a Tropical Scene of Sun, Sand, and Sea for Carnival 2013.” Last, but not least U.V.I had its 33rd annual Miss U.V.I pageant which is tons of fun for the ladies that are interested in the life of pageants. The prizes are a Full Tuition, Room and Board Educational Scholarship for the Spring and Fall Semesters. The qualifications are that she Must be a matriculated female, Must have 2.50 GPA or better, Must have completed 12.5 credits, Must not be a parent, Must not be pregnant, and she Must not be on social or academic probation. Miss U.V.I will transmit in writing via the Miss U.V.I request form, all requests for the presence of Miss U.V.I at functions, workshops, meetings or activities as well as requests for use of the crown to the Student Activities Supervisor. Miss U.V.I’s reign will begin on the date signed on the contract and terminate on the date of the next competition or the end of the Spring term, if there is no competition. U.V.I is the college to be.

Overall

Although I have only visited the school the University of the Virgin Islands is a great school. One of the strongest career provided is nursing. The activities provided are excellent and they encourage students to come back every year. The school not only provides challenging classes, but they also offer classes for students who fall behind their classes due to some personal problem. There are attentive teachers and athletic athletes. I would encourage any student to apply for this school. The university tries to place students from different islands in a room so that way they get to know each other and can do things together outside the school. Students coming from other colleges or coming to attend the University would love the scenery of the beach, and would get a chance to escape school surroundings and take long walks on the beach.

Academics

The classes provided are great meritorious, but the Nursing program is the best, due to the fact that more people are getting sick. Programs in the University are accounting, applied mathematics, biology, business administration, chemistry, English, and a lot more. The University also looks for attitude in other for students to succeed in classes. one such attitude is a willing nest to go beyond the minimum required work task. The professors in all there is 107, 51 females and 56 males. One of the biggest ups for the university is the small classes. with the small classes the professors get a chance to know you and also find your weaknesses and strengths.the University is not a party school but the environment of the islands lends to a relaxed, laid back atmosphere not necessary condusive to studying.

College Life

At the university, security can be seen all over the campus. there is also a security hut leading into the college. The weekend activities can be seen on the University's bulletin board. On the bulletin students can see events or activities updates twice a week. The university is also a walking distance from the Riechhold Center For the Arts, this is where the virgin islands have the best music, shows and entertainment. There is afternoon on the green where students and islanders can vote for the best food on the islands. The university's Sports and Fitness Center holds 2,500 to 3,500 seats. This building is designed to contain a fully functional training room, weight room and exercise room, its also used to run basketball games and the famous Battle of the Bands, where the Mighty Chicken Hawks always win.
