The staff is primarily terrible. From the testing center, to financial aid, to counciling, literally nobody knows what is going on. Some teachers are nice, but those are the ones that are way too lax and you leave the class knowing absolutley nothing more than you did hen you went into it. Everything is so unprofessional until it benefits them to be strict and not you. I just went to the testing center to try and take an exam a half hour before I had to be there and the lady just wanted to leave so she wouldn't let me take it - she would only give me 30 minutes if I did. All she has to do is sit there and wait until I'm done, it's not hard. I live in Philadelphia and came all the way down here to take that exam, and I explained that to her and everything. I needed to go back to the city tomorrow morning as I had a staff meeting, I do not have a car and needed a ride to the train station by 11am, and had an appointment to take another exam by 9. So I couldn't have taken it then. But when it comes to making sure you are taking the right classes and getting the correct bill they never are exact. Only when they want to leave.

Academics

Classes are really easy, way too easy. I feel like I haven't learned anything being here in two years. They have barely any of the classes that I really needed to take for my major at the Lancaster Campus. Also, if you take all online courses be careful because you won't recieve all of your financial aid and nobody will tell you about it until you recieve a surprise bill in the mail. Even if you go double check with them in the office a few days before.

Campus Facilities & Safety

The parking lots are really small for a non-residential campus and they are almost always full. Cars will follow you out to where you are parked so that they can pull in when you leave. It is very inconvinent. The printers are often broken as well which has inconvienced me many times. Not every family can afford a printer in their home.

Overall

Harrisburg Area Community College is an excellent stepping stone for me as I make my transition into not only the college student world, but also the adult world in general. The college goes to great lengths to accomidate the needs of every student and is very convient and cost appropriate. What I liked most about HACC was its flexibility with many classes being offered either daytime/nighttime as well as online and even some weekends. Prospective students with either children, a career, or just looking for a low cost alternative to universities should really consider HACC.

Academics

Class size as HACC is relatively small, depending on the class itself. Professors here for the most part know all of their students by first name, which you sometimes won't get it a bigger university. HACC offers many classes to meet the needs of just about every major out there. The workload is relatively light for the most part, however exams are the absolute most important part since most of your points will come from them.

Campus Facilities & Safety

HACC is a small setting campus with everything in short walking distance. Their is a gym, cafertia that features subway, library and many computer labs throughout the campus. Parking is very ample with 2 large parking lots and 2 smaller ones as well. There is a daycare on campus for students and faculty with children. Also campus security is very active and easily can be reach in case of emergency. The diversity of HACC is very important to the institution. There are many different clubs and organizations to get involved with, no certain group is discriminated here.

Overall

The school is great, students can rely on professors for help at all times. The campus has great facilities and great helpful resource centers. Cafeteria and gymnasium have a lot to offer, Guidance councilors and career advisors are very attentive of needs.

Academics

Classes are great, professors are very helpful and take time out of their days to help out if needed. Class sizes are generally small, so there is a lot of one on one attention with the professors. Home work, and assignments are usually small or done in Class, so pretty much there isn't a lot to go home and work on except studying for test and exams.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Facilities are great, library has everything needed to complete assignments and great resourceful information. Parking can be a little hectic sometimes, usually in the morning since most students like to take early morning classes. Clubs and organizations are pretty much what keeps hacc going, most clubs fundraise to help out around school, and the community.

Overall

Harrisburg Area Community College is a great school for those seeking an associate's degree, certification in a specific career, and students who would like to start at a community college before transferring to a four-year institution. What I like the most is how engaging the classes are. The educators are very skilled and good at what they do. They help each student to realize their own potential. The student life is very enriching. There are so many clubs and sports to join- anywhere from golf to gaming clubs! I cannot ignore the fact the campus has a very modern feel to it, and it is all very colorful. My recommendation for anyone thinking about attending this school is to definitely visit one of their campuses and attend an orientation. Also, for any student still in high school do check out their College in the High School (CHS) programs!

Academics

HACC has an outstanding program for anyone going into the health care field, specifically nursing. Classes are generally easier considering that a community/junior college is almost entirely introductory and prerequisite classes. Some classes are more challenging than others such as a chemistry class will be more challenging than a health and wellness class. Workload again depends on the class. Some classes have more coursework than others. Generally the workload is not too bad, and many students successfully balance going to school full-time and having a job. The professors are all really great people. They know what they are talking about and always willing to help. Class size differs, but usually there are about 20 students per class.

Campus Facilities & Safety

Each campus has a library and computer lab. The libraries are full of resources and even have tutors readily on hand to help with almost any subject. The campus in general is very cheery with an upbeat, laid-back vibe to it. The students are usually very motivated and always willing to help out a newcomer. There are many organizations (including sports teams) at HACC, and students are encouraged to create their own clubs if one they do not see it on the list. Parking is readily available, but students are required to have a parking permit to park on campus. HACC is a safe place, with almost no crime, violence, and drugs on the campus.

This was a great place for me to start off. It keeps things affordable while working around my schedule. It's easy to get lost among the students though so remember to try to have a "real college" experience and make friends!

Academics

Class sizes are usually very small and professors are able to take a personal interest in each student. There is a huge variety of programs and majors so you would be hard pressed to not find something you like!

Campus Facilities & Safety

Parking is rough, but campus is beautiful. There are multiple computer labs that are kept up to date. The campus does lack the bond brought about by organizations since there is such a quick turnover rate for students, there are very few clubs.
