UMBC Description

As part of the University System of Maryland, the University of Maryland – Baltimore County offers the extensive academic resources of a large research university. UMBC emphasizes science and engineering, but the university offers academics in a variety of subjects.

UMBC is comprised of the following academic divisions:

*College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
*College of Engineering and Information Technology
*College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences
*The Erickson School
*Graduate School
*School of Social Work

More than 40 undergraduate majors are available, as well as nearly 40 master’s and about 25 doctoral degree programs. The university also offers professional development courses in subjects like Business Analysis, English Language Training and Project Management.

Student life at University of Maryland Baltimore County has something for everyone. The university participates in NCAA Division I athletics, and the campus is rich with arts and culture, supported by institutes like the Center for Art, Design & Visual Culture.

Financial aid at UMBC comes in several forms. In addition to federal grants and loans, students can apply for a variety of institutional scholarships. These awards are based on merit, and many of them are renewable.
