Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College responds to the educational needs of our community, which is defined as the district of George, Harrison, Jackson and Stone counties, by providing an outstanding learning environment supported by excellent instruction and services. We achieve this by creating an atmosphere that fosters lifelong learning, responsible citizenship and progressive leadership in a dynamic setting.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is accredited by the Mississippi Commission on College Accreditation and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College consists of four campuses and four centers: the main campus, located in Perkinston, Mississippi; the Jackson County Campus, in Gautier; the Jefferson Davis Campus, in Gulfport; the Community Campus, a non-traditional campus without walls; the George County Center in Lucedale; the West Harrison County Center in Long Beach; the Applied Technology and Development Center in Gulfport; and the Keesler Center at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.
The college's athletic teams are known as the Bulldogs. They compete in the Mississippi Community College Athletic Conference in football, basketball, baseball, soccer, softball, golf and tennis. MGCCC won the National Junior College Athletic Association Football Championship in 1971, 1984 and was co-national champion in 2007. The Bulldogs football team is led by head coach Steve Campbell.
MGCCC began as the Harrison County Agricultural High School on September 17, 1912. Four years later, north Harrison County became Stone County, and both counties continued to support the school. On September 14, 1925, with the support of Jackson County, Harrison-Stone-Jackson Agricultural High School and Junior College began offering its first year of Junior College work. George County then added its support in 1942, and the institution took the name of Perkinston Junior College.
In 1962, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College District was formed, and three years later, Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College added the Jefferson Davis and Jackson County campuses. Between 1965 and 1985, 4 new centers were opened. The college name was changed to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on October 1, 1987. In 1996, the Community Campus, a campus without walls, was added as a fourth campus.
In 2006, President George W. Bush became the first sitting President to speak at a community college graduation, when he spoke at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

College Advice on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College |
Question: how long does it take to become a RN?O.K this is VERY confusing because the school i going to go to they have a LPN "career course" that takes a year to complete then they say that you take the "exam" to become a LPN. Then after that if you decide you can go back to the same school (oh by the way its Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College) and go to the LPN to RN transition class (which is about 38 weeks) and then at the end of the course you take the RN exam to become a RN. Now does that sound right? This is what it says. Im going to ask the school itself but i just wanna make sure by people who are actual RN's. PLEASE I NEED SOME ADVICE LOL33 months ago
Best AnswerYou can become an RN with an associate degree (2 years of full time college attendence). There are also 4 year programs. Yes. You can follow their program, but I strongly suggest you pass getting an LPN license first, if you want to become an RN. Many people end up getting their LPN and not going on to complete the RN program. |
