School Description
Provided by Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational Technical School of Practical Nursing
The faculty of the Licensed Practical Nursing Program of the W-B AVTS is dedicated to the preparation of the practical nurse. The department’s goal is to graduate a knowledgeable nurse capable of providing safe, effective and competent patient care with direct supervision of the registered nurse, medical doctor or dentist. We believe that the practical nurse education is based on a complementary relationship between clinical experience and classroom studies. Didactic information progresses from the simple to the complex and is closely correlated to scheduled clinical experiences.
The Practical Nursing Program offers you the opportunity for an exciting and good paying career. The requirements for admission to the Practical Nursing Program are a high school diploma or a GED, passing the entrance exam and your desire to make a difference. You will be taught all the essential information you need to succeed in this program and pass the National Council licensing exam when you complete.
The Practical Nursing Program of the Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational-Technical School is a full-time day program, Monday through Friday, which prepares students to become Licensed Practical Nurses. The Program is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and The National League for Nursing. The Program spans fifteen (15) months – twelve (12) months of academic instruction, with a three (3) month summer recess.
The Practical Nursing Program consists of two (2) enrollments per year, one (1) in September and the second in March. The Program consists of four (4) Levels.
