The only community college in Hilo, Hawaii, Hawaii Community College provides excellent opportunities for second-language learners as well as those who wish to get career training in a short amount of time or transfer to a four-year school, such as the nearby University of Hawaii.

The Applied Technical Education Division grants certifications and two-year degrees in fields like Auto Body Repair, Carpentry, Electronics Technology and Welding.
