At Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, what we do -- and do best -- is teach the science, practice, and business of the world of aviation and aerospace.

Since it was founded just 22 years after the Wright brothers' first flight, the University and its graduates have built an enviable record of achievement in every aspect of aviation and aerospace. The curriculum at Embry-Riddle covers the operation, engineering, research, manufacturing, marketing, and management of modern aircraft and the systems that support them.

The University engages in extensive research and consulting that address the unique needs of aviation, aerospace, and related industries.

It is the purpose of Embry-Riddle to provide a comprehensive education to prepare graduates for productive careers and responsible citizenship with special emphasis on the needs of aviation, aerospace, engineering and related fields.

Residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona, provide education in a traditional setting, while Embry-Riddle Worldwide provides instruction through more than 130 campuses in the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Middle East, and through online learning.

Daytona Beach has something for everyone -- the adventure of a city and the warmth, charm, and friendly atmosphere of a small town. One of Florida's primary tourist destinations, Daytona Beach is located on the central east coast of Florida and is known as the World's Most Famous Beach. The area's many lakes and rivers along with the ocean offer an endless variety of recreational activities, such as freshwater and saltwater fishing, sport fishing tournaments, sailing, surfing, snorkeling, and swimming.

During the winter, you can always head for one of the nearby springs, where temperatures remain in the low 70s all year round. Swimmers and snorkelers can spend their time shoulder-to-shoulder with the bluegills, the tilapia, and the manatees that swim up the St. Johns River every winter. The springs, which are fed with a flow of millions of gallons of water a day, also offer some of the best inner tubing in the area. the ocean fronts 23 miles of beaches in the greater Daytona Beach area

If you like to camp or backpack, you'll enjoy the 362,000-acre Ocala National Forest and the 836-acre Tomoka State Park. Take a trail close to the Tomoka River and you'll be in Tarzan country, where alligators live in the marshlands, and ospreys nest in the tops of the cypress trees. Along the winding black waters of the Tomoka are stately live oak trees, with branches 70 feet long. Timber from these trees was used to build ships in the 19th century.

Winters are mild and summers are warm in Daytona Beach thanks to its location on the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, an estuary which flows between the beachside and the mainland. The area's average temperature year-round is 70.5 degrees. Average monthly temperatures are 69 in January, 85 in May, 89 in July, 87 in September, and 70 in December.

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) is a private, coeducational university with a history dating from the early days of aviation. Students are enrolled in one of two residential campuses located in Daytona Beach, Florida and Prescott, Arizona or in Embry-Riddle Worldwide, composed of over 130 non-residential campuses and online programs. The residential campuses provide education in a traditional setting while Embry-Riddle Worldwide serves civilian and military working adults.

Embry-Riddle began in 1925 as the Embry-Riddle Company, an aircraft dealer and airmail provider, founded by Talton Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle in Cincinnati, Ohio. Embry-Riddle was eventually incorporated into what is now American Airlines, before reforming during the buildup to World War II in Miami, Florida as the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation, and later, the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute. Embry-Riddle moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1965 and was renamed Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1970. The Prescott, Arizona campus opened in 1978.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the only accredited, aviation-oriented university in the world. Utilizing a fleet of over 90 aircraft, the university serves culturally diverse students primarily motivated toward careers in aviation and aerospace. The university offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and a recently announced PhD in Aviation at the residential campuses and through Embry-Riddle Worldwide. Associate's degrees and non-degree programs are also offered by Embry-Riddle Worldwide.

History

Early days

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University began on December 17, 1925, exactly 22 years after the Wright Brothers' first fight, when Talton Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle formed the Embry-Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company was financed by Embry, a wealthy aviation enthusiast who served as company president. Riddle was named general manager, and the two began to sell Waco Aircraft in Cincinnati. In spring of 1926 (the date shown on the university seal), the Embry-Riddle Company opened the Embry-Riddle Flying School. On December 17, 1927, the Embry-Riddle Company established Cincinnati's first regular air mail service, from Cincinnati to Chicago.

I'm a senior graduating this year and I'm going to attend ERAU next year and i thought it would be cool to possible meet other high school seniors planning on attending there next year...

My bf goes there, he's going to be a senior (graduating early). And two of my really good friends go there...one a freshman and one a junior. I live about 15 minutes from the school and am there all the time. Don't worry about meeting people, it's really easy there, everyone is SO nice! And if u don't find any, give me a shout and you can hang with us older kids! lol!

Question: Embry Riddle Aeronautical University - Is it good or bad to get a project management degree from this school?

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University - seems to have a good reputation in aviation, but now they are offering a Masters in Project Management. Is it good to go to this school if I am not in military, not interested in going into aviation and only want the project management degree? Will employers assume that I'm in the military or a pilot, if they see this degree on my resume (u know how recruiters just scan resumes)? Is that a good thing or bad thing?

Best Answer

Embry Riddle is an excellent school. People will make stereotypes (good and bad) about just about all schools. For example, people always tend to classify UC Berkeley as a "hippie school," when, in fact, the majority of the student body is quite conservative. The MPM in and of itself is what we in education call a "money" program, meaning that it is relatively easy to set up, has low costs for the school, and nets big bucks.

Question: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University?

What can you tell me about Embry-Riddle? My dad graduated with his bachelor's and one of his master's degrees from it.

Best Answer

Embry Riddle is one of the better aerospace engineering schools in the US. The campus in Florida is better, reputation wise, than the one in AZ, but both are good. It's no MIT, but it's well respected and solid.

Question: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University questions? ?

ok i really really wanna get into that university. do i need SAT or ACT? if so...how is the ACT like? will i get financial aid? i mean as u know flight school is very expencive...and my parents won't support me.... thank you very much

Best Answer

I didn't take the ACT or SAT...but I came into it with credits so I don't know how that affected their decisions. (As a side note you can go to any university without taking those tests as long as you have over a certain amount of college credits.) Embry is a private school though so you may be able to get by without taking those tests and having no credits. All you have to do is call up the college and ask them. They are nice and will sit down to talk to you.

Question: Is this a right career path? I want to go to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on an ROTC and be a pilot.?

My sight's not perfect though but I don't plan on flying jets or fighters, maybe bombers in the USAF and just be a commercial pilot after that. I'm a junior and I want to get my carer path planned. This is something I really want to do in life. Is it possible?

Best Answer

It is possible! The best thing to do here is to ask a doctor who does flight physicals to check your eye sight and general fitness against the standards. Also, start talking with the ROTC instructors at Embry-Riddle for what the requirements are for their program and the options available to you. FYI: My father was an aviator in the Marines and is a private pilot now. He's always worn glasses for near-sightedness. In the Marines he was a navigator or co-pilot. That could be an option for you as well. Big thing to keep in mind: aviation is highly competitive in the military. You have to be at the top of your class. Study hard! Keep asking questions! God bless your desire to serve!
