West Virginia University is a coeducational public research university in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA. Other campuses include: West Virginia University at Parkersburg in Parkersburg; West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery; Potomac State College of West Virginia University in Keyser; and a second clinical campus for the University's medical and dental schools at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston. Since 2001, WVU has been governed by the West Virginia University Board of Governors.
Enrollment for the fall 2007 semester was 28,113. The University offers 179 majors in 15 colleges and has produced 25 Rhodes Scholars, including former WVU president David C. Hardesty Jr. The University also has produced 30 Goldwater Scholars, 19 Truman Scholars, five members of USA Today 's All-USA College Academic First Team, and two Morris K.Udall Undergraduate Udall Scholarship winners.
Under the terms of the 1862 Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act, the West Virginia Legislature created the Agricultural College of West Virginia on February 7, 1867. On December 4, 1868, lawmakers re-named it West Virginia University.
In the 1990s, WVU developed several recreational activities for the students, such as FallFest, a concert that welcomes students back to classes. In 1998 WVUp All Night launched to offer free weekend entertainment to students. A popular Student Recreation Center opened in 2001.
WVU is designated as a Research University (High Research Activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Funding from external sources for total sponsored programs is $138 million. WVU is affiliated with the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute, dedicated to the study of Alzheimer's and other diseases that affect the brain. WVU is also a leader in biometric technology research and recently became the Federal Bureau of Investigation's lead academic partner in biometrics research.

better acquainted with the university?
i am moving to west virginia and going to go to west virginia university... i dont want to freak out or get lost in the university... so how can i get better acquainted with the university now?

WVU's campus is very different from alot of universities. You didn't really mention how much exposure you had had to the school so far, so I'll just briefly explain. The main campus houses the computer, science, business, and political science classes as well as the student center (the mountainlair) and the main library, and most of the dorms.
The Evansdale campus has the engineering and fine arts classes, as well as the football stadium, the collesium and the fitness center. You go between the campuses on the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system.
I would worry about freaking out or getting lost on the university grounds themselves because the way things are laid out, each building and area has a very distinct look. Besides, there are lots of students so you should always be able to just ask someone where to go. If you are really concerned, I'd recommend looking up the map online and trying to get a feel for where the buildings you'll be in most are at.

Well, that's always going to be a matter of opinion.
I got a great education at West Virginia University, so obviously my bias would be toward their school. And while Alabama has a greater sports "tradition", for the last few years, WVU's football and basketball teams are both doing much better than Alabama's.
US News and World Report ranks Alabama at 88th in the nation overall. WVU doesn't make the top 125.
I'm still glad I went to WVU.

Yes, Morgantown is suprisingly diverse for being a medium sized town.
For some reason, WVU is really popular for people from New Jersey too. There's a joke that WVU is really the University of New Jersey- West Virginia campus.
Come for a tour, I'm sure you'll like WVU, if you like larger schools.

WVU offers a masters program in Agricultural Education, but not an undergrad or doctoral degree. Out of state tuition for a grad degree at WVU is around $13,000, in state is $4,500. Marshall University in Huntington, WV is also a good school, however I don't think they offer any programs in argriculture. WVU would be your best bet in WV.
