School Description
Provided by Ulster County Community CollegeSUNY Ulster is a vibrant community of learners distinguished by academic excellence, collaboration, innovation, service, and responsible use of resources.
Ulster County Community College is a two-year college of the State University of New York, located in the Hudson Valley and the Catskill Mountains—regions famous in art and literature for their natural beauty and historical significance. Nearby are the City of Kingston, New York’s first capital, the artists’ communities of Woodstock and New Paltz, and the New York City metropolitan region.
At SUNY Ulster you'll find small classes and faculty who are available to help and guide you. Many courses, and an associate's degree program in Individual Studies, can be taken online. We have excellent computer and technology facilities, a large modern library, on-campus daycare, and a Learning Center; a gymnasium and athletic fields complex for intercollegiate (NJCAA) competition; music, theater, and art studios; photography laboratories; a 500-seat theater; and an exhibition gallery.
Cultural programming gives you the chance to meet with and learn from leading performers, visual artists, and writers. Continuing education and services for business are additional ways SUNY Ulster contibutes to the community.
SUNY Ulster’s location is notable in American history, art, and literature. The Hudson River at the eastern edge of Ulster County played an important role in the American Revolution and in the development of the new nation’s commerce and economic development. The county seat, Kingston, was the first capital of New York State. The Catskill Mountains were the setting of many of the first great works of American art. The county has been home to many practitioners of all the arts—painting, sculpture, literature, music, theater, and film. In addition, modern companies and researchers are contributing to the economic development of the region.
