Don VanDyke Colby, director of church relations at the university, located in Winchester, Virginia, started the religious road trips last fall with his wife Rhonda, a Methodist pastor and the dean of spiritual life, to help students deepen their faith by expanding it. "A rigorous faith is going to serve them well. A rigid one is going to break when the first strong wind comes along." http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1862453,00.html http://www.su.edu/spirituallife/events.cfm As a Unitarian Universalist, I think this is a marvelous thing. Not only will this disperse stubborn stereotypes some students might have by the benefit of first-hand knowledge and help them better understand their neighbors, but it might introduce students to concepts and practices that will be of benefit to them and of which they otherwise would have remained ignorant. I think it's a fantastic idea. I am a very strong Christian and adore Jesus. I credit part of that to learning about other denominations and other believes. I teach my daughter about other religions and other beliefs because I think that will protect her from being manipulated by doctrines. It has made her a strong Christian because she's not afraid to research and find the truth and we know the truth ALWAYS leads to Jesus. Edit: Wow I read the other answers and am kinda surprised. How can a person witness to others if they don't know how to approach them "where they are"? How do you show someone the truth if you don't know how to show them the error of their belief? I show my daughter why I believe what I believe and can show her in scripture where other "religions" differ. I know that she is protected from "cults" and dangerous manipulative religions like Mormanism and Islam because she has researched and compared their belief systems. She's also protected from doctrine that is misguided and distorted because of this. In todays world why shouldn't we protect our youth to the best of our abilities- educate them and pray for them!

Question: Which college to choose?

I've been considering two colleges: Shenandoah University and Shepherd University both for nursing. I will list the pros first. Shenandoah has the better nursing program and better campus life. Shepherd is a little closer to home and is a nice, small town. However, at Shenandoah, the nursing building is across town. This means I'd have to drive through town to go to some of my classes. At the moment, I am getting more money from Shenandoah, but Shepherd has not sent any awards out yet. Can someone give me some insight on choosing the right one? For people who are or have been in college- what was most important to you when you chose a college?

I would choose Shenandoah. I've actually been to the campus and wished I would have gone there! Go with the better Nursing Program that has the most alumni contacts and job placement help. You'll want that after they partying is over! Being closer to home shouldn't be a factor if you're ready to get out on your own so throw that out! :) Also driving through town might not be so bad once you get involved with classes and roommates. Some of my best parking spots were becuase I car-pooled with roommates! Again I wouldn't base a college choice on driving - unless there is a serious parking problem.
