UW Oshkosh Description

Part of the largest university in the state, University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh provides traditional and alternative learning options and numerous on-campus recreational, service and cultural activities.

A traditional bachelor’s degree at Oshkosh may be earned in such academic areas as literature, languages, the natural and social sciences and performing and fine arts. Oshkosh also has professional bachelor’s degrees in such fields as business, education and nursing. Graduate programs are also available.

The Center for New Learning (CNL) is one of several alternative education programs at the Oshkosh campus. This particular program is designed exclusively for adult learners who would, without the flexibility and online courses of CNL, not be able to pursue advanced education.

Research centers as well as respected publications, such as the one on Film and History, may also be found at Oshkosh.

Student life activities include a wide range of academic, cultural, political, religious and social clubs and activities.

Students are also given the option to study abroad at an international university for a semester or year.

Since it’s a state university, UW’s tuition is substantially lower for Wisconsin residents. Financial aid is also available to qualifying students.

Admissions requirements vary depending on the program or department to which one is applying.

I like the atmosphere about UW Oshkosh the best. Staff and student workers are so helpful and kind in getting you the help that you need. I have never walked away from any faculty or staff discouraged or not getting the answer that I need. It is a warm and welcoming environment here on campus.

When looking for colleges to attend, I knew Oshkosh was the place for me! Is is not too big or too small and offers so much to do! There are hundreds of clubs, activities, and sports to participate in, so there is truly something for everyone! I really enjoyed the two years that I spent living in the dorms. I think the dorm experience is one that everyone should have to go through because it allows us to experience things that we haven't had the chance to so far in high school, like having a roommate and sharing a public bathroom with 50 other people! While those things may not always be the most glamorous, I think that we learn things about ourselves and become the people we are today because of those experiences. I got to experience meeting so many people and taking part in different activities from volunteering to socializing, and sports to leadership opportunities. My most memorable experiences are those from when I lived in the dorms, and now that I live off-campus, I miss some of those things. My tips for prospective students would be to get involved in clubs or organizations and become the person you want to be! College is all about finding yourself, expanding your horizons, and meeting people that will help you achieve your dreams. College is your time to shine, and I think UW Oshkosh is a great place to do just that.
