Overall

RIT is a great university. There is a heavy academic focus here, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find a good time. There are always events being put on by the Campus Activities Board and there are frequently free BBQs and spaghetti dinners. Hockey is the most popular sport here and games are really inexpensive and fun to attend. If you are looking for a great college experience and a wonderful education, but don’t mind the cold, than RIT is the place for you!

Academics

RIT’s quarter’s system is extremely demanding, but helps to provide a great work ethic to its students. Although the school is in the process of switching to semesters I am confident that the professors will continue to expect the same level of excellence from their students. Class sizes are very small for the most part. With the exception of a few large lectures most of my classes are 8-25 people. The small class size allows students to build relationships with their professors and enrich their learning experience. RIT is known for mixing disciplines. Because the student body here is so diverse it is possible to have classes where computer techs work with photographers and designers work with engineers to share their skills and help each other to learn. The schoolwork at RIT is not easy, but it is very fulfilling if you give it your all.

College Life

There are an incredible number of clubs, intramural sports, and other extracurricular that RIT offers. We have three big events during the school year, one during each quarter. In the fall there is Brick City Homecoming, the winter has Freeze Fest, and there is Spring Fest in the spring. At each of these events there are concerts, comedians, and visiting speakers along with many free events. Although the winters can be long and cold RIT makes an effort to keep students involved throughout the cold months. When the weather is warm there are always students out throwing a football around or biking. RITs social life and party scene is not the same as a typical college, but there is something for everyone here.

Access to faculty, small classes & the ability to explore other courses. Scholarships are a plus!

Academics

Advisers are involved in class selection Class size most are 30 or less.Lots of hands on & internships. Projects are mainly the students choice ( as long as it pertains to the subject). Participation is encouraged and rewarded. Remember the only question or comment considered dumb is the one not voiced. The faculty seems more than willing to address all questions.

College Life

If you fill out the housing form honestly you will be with students of similar interests, study habits, noise tolerance etc. There is always something going on somewhere and people willing to accompany you. The Public Safety people are great & will come to your rescue for all sorts of things ( locked yourself out, need a ice scraper or just have a creepy feeling ).

Overall

My opinion about RIT is that it is a very good school my experience at the accepted student open house was very good. I took a department tour of the computer science college that was lead by the dean. She showed us around the building and described all of the rooms and the individual majors to us she answered every bodies questions very well. They described what the first few quarters of classes would be like. After the tour there was a lunch were all the Professors and current students talked to us prospective students and they talked about their classes and what their experiences were. i personally liked all the different clubs they had there.

Academics

RIT is one of the top schools in my major which is computer sciences. The course workload seemed fair enough for a very competitive major. They said the class size was about 50 which is big for me but i go to a small town high school my graduating class is 88 kids and we've been together since 7th grade but I've had classes that have had 40 kids in them so I know what to expect as of how to be in classes that big. After the department tour we had lunch with the Professors from the our respective majors and all the professors seemed very nice and personable I'm sure that if you had a problem or a conflict they would try their best to help you out.

College Life

Th campus life at RIT seems very cool they have a very nice looking global village with a bunch of different little shops and stores it even has campus apartments adjoined to it. They also have a large variety of clubs and activities they have lots of intramural sports. the thing i am most looking forward to has got to be the hockey games I am a huge buffalo sabres fan and I look forward to going to the home games and maybe some of the away games. RIT has a lot of lounges located in all of the buildings for students to do work and work on projects. They also have a spitting image of java joes from Gibs street in there Wallace library and I know I took lessons at the Eastman school of music for five years and i had a ritual of going to javas afterwards to get a root beer and a cookie. I mean when I walked through the door the only thing that was missing was the mass of car horns that usually filled the background noise.

I went to an open house but unfortunately did not get to tour the campus. Make sure you do take a tour because I personally know I have not seen enough of the school to decide if I want to go there or not.

Academics

I do not attend school here so I can't speak for the classes or workload, but the class size is surprisingly small compared to the number of undergraduates that go to school at Rochester Institute of Technology.

College Life

I can't really speak for this since I do not currently attend the Rochester Institute of Technology. I am only a prospective student for the fall of 2012. Although I can say that there are many different clubs and organizations on campus.
